My car nearly stalls if I've just started it up, turn on the heated rear screen, heated door mirrors and fan onto 4. It then gets interesting when I have to dry steer to get out a parking space, with EPS

What has more electrical useage got to do with petrol consumption? Your alternator is still using the same amount of drive from the crank as normal. Air-con is different, that uses another belt/pulley to take power from the crank.

don't you get more fuel for your tho this time of year as with the cold temperatures the petrol is more dence?

What has more electrical useage got to do with petrol consumption? Your alternator is still using the same amount of drive from the crank as normal. Air-con is different, that uses another belt/pulley to take power from the crank.
Surely the alternator needs to work harder. I heard on here that heated rear screens use a huge amount of power, as opposed to something like a CD player.
My 12v. You switch everything on, all the revs drop, until the engine revs up again, surely this is using more petrol?

Yep all things like using a heated front and rear screen use more fuel, as you are applying a load on the engine, the revs dropping is because of the load you are applying on the engine, the idle control valve does exactly what it says on the tin, basically controls base idle speed when the car is stationary and when a load is being applied it will increase the idle speed so the engine doesn't stall. As soon as you come off the throttle the idle control valve takes over, remember at uni on engine test rigs we would simulate load by squeezing one of the vacuum pipes for a couple of seconds and watch the idle speed increase/decrease.

the difference is very small due to the density of petrol
You will not get that much more that you notice it
