Cost of land is the biggest factor probably. Could by some old dumping ground they can't build residential on etc? Worth looking at golf course costs tbh.

tbh, you'd probably be better off (in terms of time/ease and cost) buying the whole Silverstone brand.

When I win the lottery, I will hire Silverstone solely for Corsasport

I guess they make their money with sponsorship and corporate events more than they do with the actual racing as this stuff can be running 24/7 365 days a year. I bet Wembley for instance will make more money from sponsors and corporate work than ticket sales.

Also be a damn good idea to incorporate a 1/4miel strip along with it. Scotland badly needs a decent one of them. Crail is fine, but they arent allowed to do repairs to the tarmac due to its WW2 and National Trust status as a Heritage Site or something.

Guy on my site suggestion another Ex RAF base, but I doubt thats an option.

Disused air bases are the basis for a fair amount of the circuits in the country, so it might be worth looking in to, the service roads often form a nice basic layout too, which is why they're good.

You'd need a county, nevermind an airfield

Oooooo now if I won a large amount of money, i'd build one. Think thats my ultimate, to build an all purpose racing facility.

The actual track laying is the cheap part in relative terms. Its the buildings that cost the money.

IF you were going small term, like a simple track, saaay like Lydden, then excluding the land purchase cost, it could be done fairly cheaply.

If you wanted to go out and build a balls out competitive cirtcuit, something to host events up to say BSB and BTCC level, then your going to need at least 35 million.

But theres so many variables. Track surface material, how good is the land to start with, will it need digging out or good land already, pit complex, scrutineering bay, service bay, gravel traps, armco, tyre walls/airbag walls... How bigs your wallet.

Modern day F1 tracks cost so much becuase of the stupid rules they need. An outer "road" to follow the whole track (hence pushing public further away), immense concrete areas for run off, public access etc.. Thats why it can run into such a large amount of money.

But if you wanted a simple say 1-2km track, good bit of land to start with, wanted a simple pit complex, i'd say under £10 million (excluding land cost).

Airfields are ok, but usually very flat hence not a very nautral circuit. Thats why i like Brands and Oulten so much, so many undullations (?sp).

I love race track, i doodle them in meetings at work Track, racing lines, armcos, gravel traps, grandstands, paddock and pit area ha ha ha...

I listen in meetings.

You'd be surprised. The cost of decent tarmac is easily the most expensive part. The sheer surface area combined with higher tarmac costs at the moment would easily make it the biggest cost of the project.

A simple building, like a garage would be cheap. Just blockwork and a sheet metal roof. Don't even need insulation. Hospitality rooms will obviously be a lot more, but the actual racing surface will be the most expensive.

its also the planning permission and the affects on the surrounding environment these days.

even a circuit like croft has so many noise restrictions and its in the middle of no where.
