Wank how? if you don't want a fast car it's not as if it's unreliable? I've driven 1 and thought it was alright.

underpowerd
poor design
unrealible
wank spec, why buy a basic vw when you could get a better spec vaux for example

One i've been in has had nothing done to it other than regular servicing, never missed a beat.

If i was going for 1 it would be a derv but if it's £700 more to insure on top of the extra to buy it, i'd think twice. Like you say something else would be more appealing.

Nothing wrong with the 1.6 16v petrols ive ever driven!

Ok, they are a lil slow, but he's not looking for power. Friend of mine at school had a 1.6 that was on 128,000 miles and still going strong, the Golfs munch the miles

most engines ive ever sold have been either AKL etc 1.6 16v or AHW 1.4 16v, surely says something

im just putting my opinion accross, i worked with them everyday for 3 years, but if a few people have driven one once or knew someone that had one, then maybe there better qualified to make a comment on how good they are

I don't see anyone challenging your opinion or your greater position to formulate 1?

If they are one of the more unreliable 1s then fair play but my 1 and only encounter with 1 was fine.

terrible cars imo sorry. went a couple of years ago with 7k in my hand to buy a gti turbo. Took it for a test drive and walked off laughing. Handled worse than my standard corsa sport at the time.

However if you are going for one deffo go for the tdi, couple of my mates run them and dont seem to have any problems

Just a bit!

Cam - the extra money you spend on insurance you may very well save in fuel consumption depending on how many miles you do etc

tbh fro, im thinkin i may as well just pay the extra as I'm more likely to keep a diesel golf a lot longer than i would keep the petrol version.

i do average miles i think 120miles a week to work and home then whatever else on top of that

Would sound like a good idea, just look into well and I'm sure you'll make the right choice.

There is someone on the mkiv site which has had heir tdi 90 remapped and its pushing 122.8bhp and 200 lb/ft
