Yeah, no NCB. I thought it was very cheap. GSZR600 and CBR600 were about £200 dearer on average. Looked at Truimph TT but nobodt recommends them. Wasn't much more for me to look at as i wanted soething with a fairing

NSR 125 - thats another 2 stroke screamer, abit more jap if you get me (less tempremental, etc) Ironically, my friend with the 2007 rs125 has another friends NSR 125 in his garage being built up again after a insodent
RS125's are a cracking ride tho (better than a NSR), but if you arnt into baby treatment like i say dont bother
The key to making them last as long as possible is;
Expensive fully synthetic 2 stroke and always let it warm up for a coulpe of mins before ride on tick over, then ride gentley for the next 5 mins.
Mitto's are probably even worse than the RS125 for temprement, but alot do have that 7 speed which could be interesting, so it depends how much of a 2 stroke enthusiast are/will become, as to which one you buy.
If you have never been behind the bars, they are a good step to take, but if you have, dont bother. They just dont cut it speed wise.
considering your age etc, i would jump on 400 sports - zx4r, cbr 400, gsxr 400 (jap import bikes basically)

I agree, i think you'll get bored with a 125cc. The only probs with 400's is there quite small. My advice is try one first. I looked in to them but found them uncomfortable

I got my full bike licence at 17 and rode a VFR400 for a year before getting car licence & car. Well worth the experience more than anything and I feel I'm a better driver because of my bike experience.
It's also awesome to be able to race Porsche's and what not at 17 and actually win

Haha, last comment was ace. Me and my mate (R6 & ZX9R) had fun playing with a Boxster S yesterday. Guy was shocked when we went past him!! But seriously, the amount of ppl who have nearly pulled out on me in two weeks is scary! Drivers just don't see bikes!

Any time mate - i use to be a full on 2 stroke nut job
I bought a 50cc nrg at 16, ended up spending about £1000 quid on it doing it up - boring it out, carbs twice the size of standard off 125cc bikes etc. Thort i was mint blitzing the 1.2 corsas
Allot of us went on to bigger things, but i went for 4 wheels
If you need any info, just drop me a line and ill be happy to help!

I get that sometimes too when i'm out on my R6. Why do some people insist on trying to race bikes? Someone in a mk5 Astra diesel once tried it on.

Alot of the geared 125 are very expensive and unreliable, rs125 are well know for going bang, mito will be hard to find body parts but I think it uses the same engine as the rgv125 but unless its a new model there all getting on a bit now.
Scooters like the Gilera runner and Italjet dragsters 125s are cheaper to buy, insure and also cheap to fix but saying that there very reliable.
I have a 172 gilera runner which will do 85-90mph clock speed and has plenty of torque and is alot of fun to ride and piss easy to pop in and out of traffic.
I need to do my full bike licence but means I have to get a cbt (£100) theory (£25) licence (£300-400) so its not cheap and the theory questions are now set to 55 in total.
I just got a Srad600 98 s reg with new tyres, new mot, 7mths tax and 22k on the clock.

105bhp good for 140-150mph with full faring £700
Graham88 your totally correct riding a bike does make your more alert and aware and I also think i'm a better driver because of it

As from next year, the test will become MUCH harder. Im all for it, gets some of these dick boyracer types who come along, buy a SS600, then binning it as they can't actually ride (well, other than straightline anyway...).
If i was a new rider, wanting a 125cc to learn the ropes, but have good reliabilty, then theres a range of new 125cc bikes coming out, and new 250cc 4 stroke bikes (watch the MotoGP 250cc's soon go this way) that can be restricted. Learn how to ride first, go fast 2nd.
For a 125cc, this is an awesome bike.

With regards to the test, it'll soon be around £1000, will take about 4 hours (just for the test). It will include more skill training, off road training. Many test centers are expected to close.
Im all for it though, it'll massivly increase new rider skills, it'll stop the hoons getting a license, riding like bell ends, and giving bikers a bad name. Plus it'll reduce the fatalities and serious accident counts.
Hence why im constently hassling the other half to get her test before it coems into play.

Iv done 8k in the last 6 months on my little 125 and i think im ready for my test now. Been waiting till winter as its cheeper, and i ride anyway in winter so im not bothered.
As for bikes no 125 is goin to be 'fast' apprillias are ok but again in the great scheme of things and for the cost there not that fast. If you want some fun and to learn to ride on a 125, why not go for something like a DT 125, cheep reliable then spend those sunny sundays riding round looking for bridle paths and little trails etc. Much more fun imo

I've been thinking about doing a bike liscence, for a number of reasons but the main one is so I can go for rides with my dad.
I've never rode a bike, only been on the back of one. Seeing as im moving back to my parents in January i'll have 300-400 quid spare a month, realistically how long could i look at before passing a test?
anyone got any good bike forums to i can read/look at peoples bikes and get info etc? Pretty much a CS of the bike world in other words

MCNninjas.co.uk or com i cant remember. or another one i am on is fifebikers.org i think lol
anyways nath - iv not read the whole thread but i saw the mention of a 125cc and a 400cc, first of all, i can almost guarentee you will get bored of the 125 and how tall are you because 400s are very small.
i had only driven my dirt bike when i bought my ZX600 and I started driving that before i had done my test (silly i know), and i took about 6 hours lessons then my test. the test itself is very easy the only problem is there is a number of very easy to make mistakes that can fail you. personally i think you'd be better off goin for a 600 i bought mine for £1500 P reg not a mark on it

I have a Car for going 'fast'.
A 125 bike would be for occasional commuting and generally riding when it's nice.
I'm not keen on Crossers, mate of mine has a DT and it doesn't appeal to me. Thats why I'm after something like the RS or Mitto. I love how they look.

Thanks for the advice.
I'd have a budget of about £2k for the bike and all the extra's. I do like that Yamaha though
