For a technical job (maintenance or production) you get paid around 45-50k a year, 2 weeks on 3 weeks off (or 2-2 /2-4 Shell) good pay & loads of time off

FROM WEBSITE
"During the initial 18-month phase, apprentices study full time at one of the industry-appointed colleges in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Middlesborough. Trainees receive a monthly allowance of about £310 in addition to daily travel costs. For those who have to live away from home, accommodation - including meals - is provided, plus the cost of six return trips to home per year."
thats how much you get for when your at college, but you get free accomodation and you can always get a part-time job

So many companies frown upon applicants that just get an RGIT and expect to go offshore for £30k+

and i got told that even if you had all the qualifications you wouldn't get a job unless someone who was already on the rig recommended you

What the hell do you expect to do if you just get an RGIT course?
Thats only a survival course... not a training in doing a job

PS... I dont work on bloody oil rigs !!!
Been on a few though. Norway, Malaysia, Gulf of Mexico... just for visits/stop overs on helicopters etc.
I work in the oil industry though...
5years at Uni, 6 years working....
60k + bonuses + pention
I do a longer trips away from home, and less routine...
For example i didnt do much at the start of the year, but will only have around 3.5 weeks off from start of august into 2008. 3.5 weeks off out of 5 months. Working 7 days a week, 12-15hrs a day. The older you get the more sick of it you get. I cant see myself doing this for ever but the money is nice.
I do on average 180 days away a year, been as high as 220 working + hols one year.
I dont pay tax either. Well i do, but i get it back

Im in the same boat as Colin, I finish in February and im with ECITB
You get the same qualification and the pay is more or less the same, I get £360 a month to pay for everything and im in accomodation with a landlady rather than a shared flat - get meals and everything cooked for you!
First year after your 18months is around 15-16k then second year is slightly more. After you have been offshore 2 years and completed your level 3 NVQ in whatever your doing (process, mechanical, electrical) your on wages round about 40 - 50k

You'd be suprised the amount of folk think thats all you need to get a job offshore.
I was simply pointing that out.
