As Hammer pointed out, it's wastefull, it's not necesarry. Without sounding too much like a hippy, a lot of energy gets used making a car and all of the materials that go into it, for it to be destroyed and not recycled or put to any particular use just annoys me. It's in the same league as seeing all these 6 month old cars getting smashed up and written off by people who don't seem to care because they are insured. I'm sure people had more respect for thier belongings in the past than we do now.
