For an example. Thats what she gave me. She can handle different drinks differently.

Just like i'm sure most of you are the same. I know i am.

That doesn't make her under the limit just because she feels less pissed

Your liver doesnt care what type of drink you had, it processes all alcohol the same.

If I know Im going to drive I'll have one beer towards the beginning of the night and thats it, majority of the time I'll have nothing though as not worth the risk these days as having a wine gum blows a bloody positive.

Well,

I don't mind admitting it, if only to pass on some ill gained wisdom.

I've got a DR10, and did the course....which I freely admit was full of scare mongering..... BUT......if you take the info given as erring on the 'safe' side of drinking alcohol and driving, I would state the following/what i was told.

In terms of units and being over the limit...it does vary (albeit to a small extent) size, sex, metabolism all have an affect.

Females (average size) 3.5 units to 4

Blokes (average size) 4.0-4.5 units

1 unit = ABV x volume divided by 1000

So a 5% lager = 5x570/1000....= 2.850 units

IMO the morning after is more of an issue these days...most people with a semblance of intelligence know DD is stupid/daft/will see you banned.

In my youth it really wasn't such an issue.

hi jules

im with you on this one im afraid i have been done for this aswell and from what i can remember all what you say sounds about right,

the morning after is more of an issue as 1 unit takes 1 hour to be out of the system theres 2/3 units in a pint, who drinks 1 pint in 3 hours?? nobody so you have to work out the fact your constantly drinking for several hours and its not coming out as fast as its going in??? i no what i mean and ppl who have done the ourse prob will.

legal limit now imo should be 0, 0 tolerance tbh

oh and the food things makes no difference saying i had 1 with a meal it doenst soak it up at all

tbh neo if he had 2 cans over 3 hours he will have been over the legal limit, but he should have been asked if he wanted to go for blood, which would have stood him in a better position (im not trying to get him off the hook he shouldnt have done it) but going for blood the doctors take 2 hours to get there and by this time alot more alcohol is out the system giving him a better chance of keeping his licence

advise to you in future, if he has 1 can...don get in the car at all

The night before Monsters smash, we went to the local pub for a few drinks and games of pool.

I drank 6 pints of lager and in 12 hours after that i got breathalised and it said 0.0.

So who can work out how many units that'll have?

as said different people can handle more/less depending on so many variables even wot u have eaten, i have known fellas whos have crashed with half a dozen beer in and passed the breathiliser.

ive also known guys who have had ten plus pills in them and stopped by the police and the poliecman not twigging..

With respect to what Paul posted, that (2 cans/three hours) still seems a tad odd to me. As Cosmo posted your liver doesnt discern between drinks.....just the ABV in them.

If the bloke in question hadn't had a drink in (lets say) 48 hours before this happening i would feel sorry for him.

However.

If he was on the piss 70pm until 30am and then had 2 cans in three hours on the following lunchtime then more fool him.

Eating stuff doesn't make any difference.

A 'big' mate of mine finished work a while back...and when i say big I mean big drinker too.

He sank 5 pints in 45 minutes after work then blew negative....I dont doubt if he got bagged 30 mins later he would have been WELL over the limit.

If i'm in the pub for a while i'll sometimes have a bottle of bud etc then a coke. If I have a drink with my mates, then there is normally enough time to have a coke with it too. I don't do that often though! I save my drinking for the weekends!! Ha!

Morning after is a bit dodgy though, I've been in the car on a morning after and been nervous because of what you see on TV etc!

I had a mate which was out and about with his mate when the car got belted with a pool cue. They spent the next three hours in a police station filling out all the forms etc etc. After this the passenger asked to have a go ont he breathalyser to see if he could drive home. Copper said it was fine and he passed the test. He'd had quite a few drinks in town that night and was still ok to be dropped at his car so he could drive it home!

Bring it on when we are enforced like Norway.

NO DRINK WHAT SO EVER.
That would stop any questions because there is a haze over it.

The legal limit cannot be measured in pints, cans, glasses, shots or anything else.

Zero tolerance is just not realistic not in our society. What you going to do after a night out?! I think its bad enough after a night out now, I'm sure there are more people driving about unaware that the levels in their blood are higher than allowed on a Sunday day than you think.

as said not really realistic in todays society, how many people go out on a saturday and get plastered? People arn't sensible enough to drink in moderation and not get totally fucked, nevermind organise someone to drive them about the next day.

I totally agree. There is actually no way of measuring what you have drunk to the limit. Everyone is different - I studied this quite a lot for my media A-level assignment.

In Slovakia, the limit is NOTHING, how it should be imho.
