Muppetsport-Fair point, but i do believe this thread was about 14s 1/4 times, and vts engines

parkers dont give power figures as 117-120
i can tell you now parkers will say 120bhp
however some made a bit more, anything upto 130bhp, pot luck really, i blame french manufacture tolerances

But getting into the 14's in a standard N/A 1.6 is bloody impressive (unless its jap)
Just getting the engine would be the problem..

They do indeed say 120bhp.
Its still hard to belive that, in a 900+ kg car would do a 14 sec quarter tho, lol.
I just cant accept it

I guess it shows how superior the vts lump is compared to a standard gm 16v.
If its been done, then i guess theres no argueing with it

if your gonna go for a rallye. n u go for the s2, im not quite sure if they are the same gearbox, but the GTI gearbox is WEAK. a lot of people change to the S1 box as its much stronger. the s2 rallye's r stunning tho mate. if u get one in blue aswell it would actually possibly make u have a constant erection. like a big huge massive royal blue viagra pill. ..oh no hold on thats just me ..hmm i want a rallye lol

(DAN @ vsport)
i have done the 16v transplant into the 106 rallye about 10 times now i have been part of the rallye register for years and owned a 16v rallye in the past.
the best combination is a s1 rallye with an early 16v engine mated to an s1 rallye gearbox. and with the amount of s1's for sale atm you could probably get a car all done for £2000.
the only 1/4 mile run i did in mine i managed a 15.6 in the pouring rain and personally i had beat a handfull of 2.0 16v novas and corsas amongst allot of other things.
and every 16v rallye ive seen gone down the 1/4 mile has put in a 15.0 or less time. i have never seen a vts/106 in standard form putting in those times maybe said car with an exhaust and air filter etc but never a bog standard car

What to standard 106 rallye's do the 1/4 mile in?
How much work is involved to put the 1.6 16v lump in with the rallye gearbox?

if its a s2 rallye it should be a pice of piss as same body shell as gti , the s1 needs a few tweeks here and there as with all engine conversions

The rallye needs to be stripped as well. I know someone with a stripped rallye, 16v lump, exhaust + filter that did a 14.9.
I did a 15.3 in my Gti, with just exhaust and filter... at the same time I got it Rolling roaded and it was running 141.5 bhp @ fly.
So I'd imagine mine wasn't standard 120 bhp. and that's quite possibly why it was able to do 15.3 (and so many can).
As steve said, many make more than 120 bhp standard.
I did a 14.8 though with full interior in my car with cams it should go quicker, but I struggled with traction on every run.
Get a Rallye, Strip it completely, 16v it and then add exhaust / filter. and you'll be laughing.
Exhaust + filter make a huge difference on these engines.

Tottally agree there , my gti was shite when i first got it but with the filter and pugsport it can fairly shift for a 1.6 , got the manifold on to and that helps slightly feels more free'r revving Bring on the cams and remap

Parkers and maxflower
get real, if they made 117bhp they'd not move anywhere as near as they do
