Update.
Woke up and its strange to not put glasses on.
My head feels naked and i want to rub my eyes. But, you're not allowed. (for 2 weeks).
Already, I can tell my vision is getting better and better.
The pain has gone, maybe a slight stiffness, and light sensitivity though.
Going to go for my first check-up now

IMO, the worst was the pyschological trauma
Its scary going in there and letting people fanny around with your eyes when you're wide awake.
The laser itself is nothing, you don't feel a thing.
Only a few hours after, you start feeling the stinging and achey-ness.
I sooooooooo want to rub my eyes right now though.

Intersting post mate
I looked into this a few years back but was warned off it as there is 0% chance that I could not rub my eyes for 2 weeks, Im far too weak willed for that

im seriously considering having this done ive been wearing contact lenses for many years now and glasses before that, and they are the biggest pain in the arse, esp as i do a lot of muay thai boxing and a good hit to the head knocks the fuckers out lol but i was advised to wait until my eyes settle at a certain level or something? Or else i could have the surgery and in a few years they start to degrade again?

Your eyes must be stable ie. not get any worse. Then you can go get it done.
Anyway, just got back from check-up and I now have better than 20/20 vision on my first day of recovery

If i had crap eyesight i'd get it done if i could overlook the fact they butcher your eyeball with a cheesegrater.
Eyesight is something a lot take for granted without our eyes would be fucked.

But im blind as a bat myself and need glasses all the time, but only wear them while im online and would i fuck let anyone go near my eyeball.i dont even like contacts.

The £395/eye prices are for Lasek (I think) surgery - this is where they don't cut the eye but use a soloution which allows the surface of the eye to be moved so a thinner part is pulled over the pupil - then the laser does it's thing.
This may sound a better option but you'll be blind for the next day and in a LOT more pain - I know this as my mum and brother had this method and it was so painful that they couldn't sleep the night of the surgery even with the strong sleeping tablets and painkillers given to them.
For me the worst part of it was getting over the mindset of what they were going to do and the smell of my burning eyes when they done it - but I'd recommend it to anyone and would have no doubt about having it done again.

I'm considering getting this done, but waiting til I come back to the UK, I want to understand what they're saying, especially if they screw up. Don't fancy it here in Germania

Ive thought about it as my eyesight is slowly getting worse. £4k has to be worth it for the best treatment.
Just think how much you'd save on eye tests & glasses

i wear contacts and tbh i would pay out the 4k or whatever it is for the surgery if it meant i didn't need to put little bits of plastic crap in my every every day.
wearing contacts when tired is terrible and if you touch or rub your eyes you risk them falling out, even when driving. if anyone who wears contacts has fell asleep for a long period of time with them in and then woken up, they know the amount of pain you feel, it's like having a bit of glass in your eye as the contact goes hard as it isn't gettign any moisture from the eye.
definitely worth the money but depends on the risk to your eyes.

I work in a hospital pharmacy and am involved with the preperations and eye drops that they use.
I have never heard of anything bad happening in the time that i have beeen there. Plus the staff there are very competent and helpful.
However after seeing what goes on myself I can fully understand how scary it would be to have done.
Also on this subject I need to get my eyes checked as im sure i cannot see as well as i used to

Mine was done at Ultralase too -- I had wavefront, tissue sparing, etc, etc. Every option except Intralase. That was only just on trial in Chelmsford at the time, so I had the nice mechanical slicer. Was £3k at the time...
Eyesight is still getting better (I swear) after a year now, and my night vision is superb!
I came out just slightly better than 20/20 too (15/20 or 20/15 which ever way round it is)
