Why?
They can still crash on corners going too fast, due to inexperience.
I don't think that's the answer, I understand that limiting it in some way, theoretically would help, as a 17 year old with no experience wouldn't be able to handle a 200bhp car, but you can do a lot of damage with a 45bhp car still, so is it really the answer?
dude i wasnt being serious, i have no real opinion on it to be honest, cant see what the hell is going to make a significant difference.

They'd be better off sticking a massive spike in the middle of every steering wheel, facing the driver.
That's stop people driving like idiots.

its always good how the goverment twist statistics they always seem to make young ppl look bad what about all the old c**ts on the road there more dangerour than most lol. and also driving for a year thats a damn lot of lessons and how do they judge a year what if i had 10 dirving lessons over that year still means ive been driving a year...

Didnt we have this argument only a month or so ago ??
And my 2 cents is that its a pointless idea...no one will really take any notice and people will still drive like tards.
To get most people off the road that drive like spoons they should start making more effort to get every "singh" family member off the road that uses one drivers licence, and every "polski" thats on the road illegally isn't.
Young drivers shouldn't get blamed for all road accidents

Fair, enough, BUUTT!!!
How much is a years driving lessons going to cost??? say £40 for 2 hrs lessons every week, thats £2080 a year!
Even if you had a lesson every other week, thats still £1040!
Then, insurance companies, sure as hell arnt going to give a cheeper rate because you have been driving for a year. so youve still got to pay £1000 odd for insurance
Then for a car! what kinda 18 year old has like £5000 to spend!

i think old people are the worst! my birds 86 year old gran is still driving and i went in a car with her and it was one of the most terrifying experiences ive ever had!!! she had no reactions and no awareness! im 18 and ive had a few near misses but ive had the reactions to stop them, but most old people wouldnt have the same reaction speed, which i think is the main cause of accidents.

Interesting read, I personally dont think it would make any difference to accident statistics, as the same idiots would be on the road, but just a year later. I think they should do more to keep stupid people off the roads. My mum nearly had some stupid immigrant badger crash into her yesterday because he was going the wrong way around a roundabout. I think there should be more emphasis on driver training, driving lessons are just focused towards helping people pass their test, rather than educating them on how to be a safer/better driver.

the way i read this you wont be able to pass at 17 as you wont be able to take your test until 18
another idea they have spun around is stopping new drivers from carrying young passengers at night say from 10 pm to 7am personally i think this is a good idea as most deaths to teens are probably in the early hours of the morning with more than 2 passengers .
this is just my view being an old fart and having been young once but i also think the test should be like a pilots licence where you accrew hours of flight/drive time to achieve your licence which should also include night driving and motorway driving even if the motorway driving comes as stage 4 of the licence after passing part 3 at 18
hang on i hear i you say wheres stage 1 &2?
well stage 1 is theory
stage 2 would be routine maintainence checks- tyres/oil/water/wipers and how to change a wheel.
i can see some of you wont like my views but some of you wont have lost a brother in a motoring accident and if these measures saved just 1 life then thats 1 mother/father/brother/sister who wont share that pain.

i can see where your coming from m8y having something unfortunate as that happen which im sorry to hear,
but i remember when i was 17-18 learning i had no confidence driving i was fit to be on the road i just kept panicing bein on the end of my seat the whole time,
i remember if id of been on my own in the car id of been perfectly fine it was because the instructer was there i shit myself because of the feeling of being judged. the motorway thing for me would of made me feel worse the duel carrageway was scary enough my 1st time lol.
it wasnt till i had my own car insured and went out with my dad all the way to north wales(apart from the motorways obviously bein a learner)
that i felt more confident and the 1st week i passed i drove all the way to wales on my own i shit myself the 1st time i went up the motorway i found takin deep breathes calmed me down i started off well and behaved, for probably a year before i became a right cunt.
ill be the 1st to admit it im a wanker on the road i never take risks stupid risks though for example i wont over take on blind bends or where i dont think its safe to or by schools in the day or through town fast at night,
but where i can speed i do excessively putting just myself at danger, but im just like the rest i cant see me slowing down till i get to 30 or for example when i get hold of my next car that ive saved 6k cash for and worked hard for all myself and when ive got real power i know ill kill my speed because i know i can go fast i dont need to try, i wont try and race saxos etc all the time ill just simply let them go.
on the other hand i had a stupid bint that nearly pulled out into the side of me well would of clipped nearer the back of my car and i was glad i was going fasty because if id odf been doin the speed limit shed of had me, that was unbelievable how does anyone with l plates fail to stop at a junction , im dreading next year taking my little sister out in her car im sure shell put the fear into me and make me say i wished theyd put the age up lol.

its an experience in itself nt it drivin there on your own when you 1st pass deffo gives you a little bit more confidence.
and lol you putting an engine in you really dont want to break down round them lanes at night on your own,
im taking it it was a few years ago before we had mobiles not being rude just from what youve said and it being a cortina so igathered it was a fair few yrs ago
signals better these days with mobiles but 2 years ago i blew up my old astra just past oswestry going more towards bala way,
i had sat nav mobile phone and the aa still had major trouble getting me they couldnt pin point my location i just had a number of lake bala one of the channels to go on with no signs and it being 6-7 at night on a summers evening i was getting a bit worried as the sun was going down cause i was on my own that time luckily the garage that contracts out to the aa had drove past me whilst i was broken down and i had destinguisihing features like mudflaps cause it was stripped out for rallying, that was in this day and age so back then i should imagine it wouldnt of been nice.

yeah it was a fair few years ago around 1988 i remember going down the road to nantwich as it was getting dark and being the 1st car in a massive long queue stuck behind a tractor and me too scared to overtake it and getting mass paranoia about the 10 mile tail back building up behind me i was so glad when he finally pulled off i dropped it down a couple of gears and tore off like a complete dick and ended up missing my turnoff
i got rid of the cortina after that trip and built a stage 2 1500 105E anglia i painted the front half canary yellow and the back half carnival red i got pulled over by the old bill who asked me what colour it was supposed to be i told em custard cream one copper couldnt stop laughing but the other one didnt break a smile and told me it was supposed to be brown according to the log book thank god they didnt give tickets for that.god i miss that old car it was a real sleeper looked like shiyte but went like stink 1500 stage 2 with a 2.0e g/box and a 1200 diff which i blew twice until i fitted a 1300 capri one.
ps if anyone see it MUU 114D it was last seen by me in shoeburyness around 10 years ago id be interested to see the old girl again.
