um no offence but just because you go to the gym doesnt meen you know what your talking about, my gym is full of people who go all the time but have no idea what there doing hence why they make no progress at all.
sit ups are poo poo, they wont tone your stomach if you have a high body fat at all.
work on reducing your all round body fat and your abs will show.
abs are just like any other muscle they do respond to weight training, just train them like any other mucle, weighted situps one day a week, for however many reps and sets your training regime tells you.
it really annoys me also when people go on about body building ect and spout crap when they really have no idea what there talking about.
my advice though get an excersize bike, 40 mins on morning 40 mins on night nd et small low card high protein meals every 2 - 3 hours if you really dont care about building mucle.

depends on your bodyfat percentage on how toned your stomach will look, it tends to need to be 10% and below on most males but thats only an estimate as everyone is different

ssj_kakarot is right, lowering your bodyfat overall will develop the visibilty of your abs. Everyone has them, it just depends how much fat you've got sitting on top of them. If you're fat, and develop your abs, your stomach will just look fatter.
