I didn't like the ST170 my cousin used to have. Engine sounded very thrashy, didn't seem all that quick. Cheap inside.
Astra SE2 would be nice if you can afford one. Not a clue what they are like performance wise but they look good inside & out.

Focus for me too i'm afraid, the astra just doesnt do it. You could just forget those two and get an old CRX

I had the option, I went for the Astra.
My parents have had load of Focus in the past, all 2.0 Ghia tho.
They were nice but not what I was looking for. Never regretted getting my Astra.

Focus ST 170 anyday, may not be the quickest of cars, but is a lot better performer than the Astra, very good handling and good spec, leather, a/c, xenons etc.. Astra is more of a cruiser than the focus, the 2.2 I think would become boring quicker due to the lack of power and the pretty dull handling

My Astra has factory leather, a/c, heated seats, cruise control.....
No lack of power in the 2.2 it's just higher up the rev range, and the handling on mine is fine - but it does have the Irmy suspension kit

No offence but the 2.2 with 147 bhp is not exactly a powerhouse, and compared to the Focus ST 170 the handling is not in the same league, agree spec is very similar on the two, but if its fun and performance you want then the Focus is your car, if its a cruiser with looks then the Astra is the one.

Thats a myth, a pretty big myth at that.
My Dad had a 1.8 Coupe that handled just fine, and I live in roundabout City, if anyone can comment on handling then I can.
He now has a Convertible Astra, same shape, which in theory should handle worse. But it doesn't. It handles fine. The suspension is soft, but takes roundabouts effortlessly with no problems, and barely any roll.
They might well handle badly on some sort of track, but day to day driving they are more than fine.

And the 2.2 pulls like a train, not quick off the mark but in gear they go really well.
Astra for me (still )
