My mate works directly with the Yanks in Fallujah, had he shot those two Iraqis and it been in a British controlled area he would have been in deep shit, where as the Americans kill for fun.

of course its not, its designed to take down enemies not rip them apart like the old SLR's did.
By Law i have to use bigger calibre/bullets to shoot deer in this country

If your shooting someone, your shooting to kill not to injure them, the Iraqis will pump you full of 7.62 without hesitation.

yes but todays standard is to disable rather than cause mass deaths.
i agree though, we have to use .243 ullets in england for anything bigger than a fox and yet the governemnt sends them to war with the tiny but high velocity .223 bullets. joke tbh.

This was a M4A1 as well which has a higher muzzle velocity than the SA80, I really wouldn't want to be in the British army, inferior equipment, the SA80 is good now after Heckler & Koch got involved but its still to underpowered.

FN FAL? Why didn't they ever make the FN FAL shorter and fire the standard Nato round I shall never know, rather than building the highly ineffective SA80A1

SA80, i've fired one of those. Either that one or the predocessor that didn't work properly. Had a nice kick to it (first time i fired it i had the sight to close to my eye. Fired, belted me straight in the eyeball ).
Mark1984, watch some of the history channels. Some great stuff ont here about the SS, nazi gold, german technology and how far they were ahead of everyone else, at errrr, well everything really.

Nope, never fired one of those, only the gay .22 and the other one was one of these... Nearly got my marksman with this gun, although to get it you had to shoot with the .22 1 shot was outside the 2p zone

yes, or FN herstal whatever you want to call them.
The L1A1 i think it was, 7.62mm (.280), should never have been dropped for the crap SA80.

Had about 200 rounds from a gpmg.
We wen't meant to take them off camp, but when linked up, they looked very good accross my old windowsill.
Bugger to keep clean with the ol brasso though (all fired rounds).
Tried to sell them to the army store Mind you, i was sub 16.

there are rules about shooting to maim, in the same way we don't use landmines anymore. so therefore shooting 7.62 would be better in one sense
in the cadets we used to shoot the L98A1 Cadet GP rifle, which is basically an SA80 without the gas parts so it needs cocking after every shot. i used to enjoy it alot, anf they were alot better than the .22 pieces of crap you shoot at first. as a four star cadet you got to shoot the LSW too, the only sad part is that i wasn't there long enough to shoot it out on an exercise, only on the range

also, the picture VXR posted is an SA80 without the SUSAT as oli said, the cocking handle is massively different. on the SA80 it was the small one there that you use your left (fuck knows why) hand to cock, whereas the GP was cocked with the right hand and has a much larger cocking handle.

one of the main reasons behind NATO switching from .762 to .556 was that it didnt kill outright, as the story goes you kill a man it takes him from the battlefield.. you wound a man it takes 3 (in terms of battlefield support) not that theres much of that from our 'enemy' nowadays.
Theres also a hundred other factors, weight, size, battlefield standards etc
In regards to ballistics, the SA80 isnt underpowered at all, the slower muzzle velocity isnt due to the load in the cartridge its due to other aspects of the rifle design.
At the moment whether you like it or not the SA80 A2 is one of the most accurate and reliable weapons in use on the modern battlefield.. Part of which is down to the bullpup design spreading the weight evenly and allowing for a longer barrel within the same operating length giving increased manuerability etc
Oh and in regards to the MINIME.. what are we basing it being shite on? performce? or round size? because if i had to carry either one and a few hundred rounds i know which id choose..
