i'm sorry but for a grand you won't get a saxo with a bit of poke that will last you 12 months 
I'd look at a mk2 golf gti or even a mk3 gti.
Possibly a rover 200 vi, or 1.8 vvc coupe. Alot of car for your buck, plus the seats are awesome.
