My bet is its had a cross member after an accident at some point and its rotted from bad preperation or lack of protection..

I dont believe for a second its ended up like that through age etc..

Thats what I think, as the crash bar is buckled in the middle, and theres overspray in about it, so i rekon some cunt has done a bodge job on it. If i end up keeping it, engine is coming out and the whole bay is being de-rusted, then a coat of waxoil or something.

Just clean up the rust, get a new cross member welded in and underseal it to death... No reason why it should be a big problem to you, at least its not a panel thats seen etc.. As long as its solid and does the job I'd be happy.

Aye, true. The slam panel is pretty rotten too, so im going to get a new one welded in. Wish i knew how to weld properly, can do the basics, but ill get my brother to do this job, hes got a welder and everything

Yeah, you see, if you ever own a 106 GTI or anything like that, you automatically gain a hatred to vauxhalls, look at steve for example.

Funny, I've had loads of Vauxhalls over 6 months old and none of them looked like that. Perhaps you are unlucky in your experience, or alternatively an attention hungry lying wanker?

My Nova, which was from 1985 (older than 6 months ) had less rust than that, so it must have been a bad repair on your car Chris.

Thought as much, as there is no rust as bad as that elsewhere, just little bits that can be easily fixed. It must of been in a accident, as the crash bar is bashed. Its only really at the edges of the cross-member thats badly rusted, most of the rest of the rust on it is just surface rust.

ive seen a few corsas in that state before, apparently its a major flaw in the cars but personally out the 14 corsas ive had only ones been as bad as that and £150 got a new crossmember both fitted and treated to make it look brand new job done and i was well happy, ive just buffed the one on my present car as well as all the inner arches to make sure this car never gets as bad as my old sri
