I'd say lycra was worn in the early 90s, after that mid 90s+ everyone switched to motocross gear as the scene changed direction (big full sus bikes, full face helmets, even goggles)

The videos of the early 90s where DH was taking off had people riding mainly front suspension bikes with basically x country set ups and gear.

For practise and messing about I always used DMR pedals and racing Shimano DH spd's.

The Kikapu is a good bike, the suspension linkage is geared towards more traction rather than hitting jumps or drops, although it will definitely take them up to a few feet.

Some of the stuff has moved on slightly, but its all marketing bullshit to be honest. The wheels are drivetrain are dead on. Ride it and replace the stuff your not keen on when it wears out or breaks.

It is a cross country bike. Not a downhill or freeride or dirt jumping bike.

PS - World championship downhill riders normally wear Lycra

Its a one of race though.

How is an £800 bike a bargain?

You should see the bikes my brother has!

He used to have a Cannondale Super-V - they were about 2-3k

His current bike is a few k too.
