My old Sky+ box did same thing as yours, recording failed, no sound on some channels, other channels didn't work etc, sky didn't give a toss about it but were happy to sell me an HD box Got sick of it so paid the £300 of whatever it was. TBH If my box hadn't have been dodgy I probably wouldn't have upgraded to HD just yet, only watch the football on it!

I asked when I had HD installed if I could whack a + box in the bedroom but you have to have new cabling etc which was a pain

i dotn have full package, so will be £10 a month for sky+ yeh? wuldnt mind getting it but dont wanna pay £10 a month haha
