You didn't see my reasons for the suggesting.

If the police pulled Stavs over because they knew he had no MOT by checking the PNC, then surely the 7 day producer is to have an MOT done, and produce the pass certificate within the 7 days.

If however, the MOT fails and he doesn't have time to get the failure fixed, to then have a retest and show the pass certificate within the 7 days, then he'll have no choice but to SORN the car, until it's sorted. Show up within the 7 days saying the car has been SORN'ed, shouldn't be a problem I would have thought?!

thats not how a producer works, a producer means you have to show your docs within 7 days due to you not having them on you at the time, they must be valid at the time you were stopped

if it were to have it tested it would be some kind of rectification notice he would have been given

have it re tested and explain the situation, there might be a fine but theres always the chance of them realising its a genuine mistake

Being an mot tester ,,u cant backdate them...u can only forward date them if the old mot expires less than month from when u present it for test....you also might find that having no mot will void ure insurance too..

Unfortunly we dont have the power to set wot dates the mot expires, the central computer nows if ure old mot is still valid and will date on accordinly..so if u have no mot or if u present it more than month b4 ure old one expires it will date it from the day u present it.

The reason I suggest you were a clown is because the MOT has nothing to do with being SORN'd - thats if you don't want to re-tax the car. It wouldn't make any difference to having an MOT or not, and certainly wouldn't help in this situation .

Agreed, turning up to the station with the SORN declaration in hand would exacerbate things

I didn't realise what the producer meant - I thought he would have to produce a MOT certificate within the 7 days. One that was done within the 7 days. Then if it fails but the car is off the road, then everything is ok.

meh, I thought the police pulled Stavs over saying he hasn't got an MOT?! I didn't realise they pulled him over asking to produce documents within 7 days, then Stavs realised he didn't have an MOT when he got home and dug all his papers out?!

its simple, if you were stopped and the car didnt have a valid MOT then you will most likely just get a fine for not having the MOT.

get it re-mot'd asap and just be as polite as possible when you do produce, be honest and they may even let you go with a quick warning.

Truth is the best option imo, lying to police never seems to work.

Stavs, don't point it out to them just take it in there with all your documents, 9 times out of 10 they won't even double check dates as its normally a cooper who works for nothing on the front desks.
