I'm charged out at £182.25 inc VAT (8 - 12), If I could afford my own gear I'd do it myself, I'd be able to live happily on that wage

Also, yeah when out in clubs and stuff they give you as many drinks as you can handle, but it doesn't pay the rent etc.

that wasn't the point, tenner an hour is better than 5.50 an hour, and if you are good at what you do, soon get contacts, bit of networking, playing on other days in different venues.
I have a friend that plays all over the place, from new york, japan, egypt, amnesia in the summer. Obviously been lucky yeah but he wouldn't have got there knocking baywatch theme tune out while muttering over a microphone followed by a bit of castles in the sky.

If you came to one of my nights you'd see what stuff I play etc, I didn't post thi for you guys to tell me I play shit music when you've never been to a set of mine...

I play what the venue tells me with a bit of my own initiative in there too, yeah, thats how you make money, playing for the people...

But when I'm in the clubs I can put together a set that everyone will like... I've never once had a bad word said about my work, I'm the only DJ in the company that can say that...

Yeah, I could go for a job at a club and would probibly get it, but I'm tied in to the company at the moment.

my boss is awsome, thats why it's hard to decide what to do

Hmmm, it sounds like a confidence issue tbh.

You must have enough contacts to start making your own bookings and you've proven to yourself that you can deliver what you promise, just a case of taking the bull by the horns.

It might not pay much, but the networking you'll be doing could pay off big style if you went it alone. Maybe look at it that way?

I earnt about that driving a van, and I got to bed a proper time and didn't need to invest any of my own money in stuff.

Four hours on a good rate doesn't beat a week of something normal.

yeah, but (182.25 x 3) x 4... work out at a good salery...

Clubs pay less but you don't need to invest any money... that's my point.

So its the investment you're worried about? The worst that can happen is it doesn't work out and you sell the equipment to pay back the loan. If its one of those things that you HAVE to do, surely its worth losing out a couple of quid to find out?

no, I'm not worried, it's impossible, I can't afford an investment, there are no 2 ways about it, I can't get my own equipment, end of

I don't agree - if there's a business case for borrowing money then there will be people prepared to loan. Can you not sell the car? If this is business and you'll make it back then that is worth exploring?

180 a night is OK if you're doing three of them a week, in fact thats about £25k?

In which case do that - you won't get that elsewhere without quals.

What do you do with the money at the moment (haven't read the whole post, sorry if you've explained) Could you not put some aside and save gradually for the equipment?

Ian, car has already gone, but that doesn't help, made nothing on it after I settled on the finance, also, now I'm stuck for getting to and from work, have to rely on been able to use my brothers car, not ideal...

Robin... Money goes on paying board petrol to get to and from work, was spending on car repayments and insurance etc, but not got to worry about that for a bit now.

a_j... think is, I'm not on my own at work, I'm with people who share the same interest in music and we just piss about, have a laugh and generally enjoy our selves...

I guess cos there is such a big contrast between home and work that's the issue... I mean, I don't really enjoy been at home, but I love been at work.... if you get what I mean.
