I achieved £8400 for my sapphire black example, with some choice mods.
I was pretty happy with that

Ideally i'd want Xenons, but i'm not that fussed really

Where was the stage 1 done? Any ideas how much difference it has over a standard one? Have you had it on the rollers to check what it's putting out?

Oh one other thing - does anyone actually ever change the wheels on them? .

No, because changing the wheels ruins the look and makes it look like a SRi.

Yeah the VXR is a better car, but im not sure if it's a £5-7k better car - and IMO that's alot of money if there's nothing majorly different in terms of performance or looks .

You did, although that was well over 3 years ago. Steve Tolley AKA LordNikon over on Astra-sport owned it.

I'd go for the GSi personally, wish I could afford one myself. Maybe in a couple of years when the prices have dropped a bit more
I drove a VXR once, didnt impress me at all, wasnt nearly as much fun as the calibra that we had at the time.
The GSi is sex on wheels

VXR not as fun as a Calibra, I've driven a Calibra Turbo quite extensively and can say the VXR is a lot more fun

I'd take the VXR - it's the better car to begin with, more R&D has gone into it to make it that way and would be my weapon of choice all day long

thing i dont understand is...

GSI £8k, VXR at least 15k?

Thats heck of an odd comparison

You could almost buy 2 gsis for the price of one vxt

Yeah, but that's the reason I made the thread - I prefer the VXR, but if the GSi will be an adequate substitute, then i'll have saved myself a bundle of cash for a cars that's say 90% as good.

TBH I don't think it's that odd a comparison their both really the same car being top of the range sporty Astras, big wheels, bodykit, half leather recaros, same engine albeit a slightly different spec, similar suspension set up etc. Is it not the same as comparing a an older Civic/Leon/Clio against their replacements .

I know! . Are they actually much better function-wise though?

Worst case scenario I think it's possible to buy projector headlamps as an aftermarket upgrade, albeit without the HID though .

What i've read off other formus seems to indicate the same TBH.

Only negative points are that the handling is supposedly on the over-cautious side, but it'd most likely find itself on Eibach springs shortly into my ownership if i thought it necessary .
