Yep, cheap insurance and can park for free whereever they like if they've got a disabled stick (like the fella next door has)

Then this old man comes driving up onto the forecourt and drives straight through a car showroom glass window he was litterally only going about 6mph so i dont know how he managed it. He got out and looked about 1023 years old.
I laughed but then it also reminded me that i have to share the road with these people.
LMFAO!

some older drivers are good drivers though. my grandads about 75 now and still drives confidently (he doesn't have any fucked up sight or legs etc).
but yes a lot of older drivers cannot handle the modern day roads, partly due to never taking a formal test to begin with and all they have to go on is experience.
they say they are better drivers then us... only because they always seem to do 20 in a 30 zone, 30 in a 60 zone etc...
should definitely have a law which meant that drivers over 60 or 65 had to re-take there test. i'm pretty certain that over 50% would fail the test first time.
don't think it would ever happen though..although seems good from a DVLA point of view, getting all that extra revenue

I don't think they should have to re-take their test. I think if a doctor says their reactions and eye sight are good enough then they can stay on the roads.
There's an old dear by mine who is bad on her legs and uses her car to get to the shops etc. She's perfectly fine driving, takes her gran kids out etc.

it's all stereotypical to be honest.
if an old person crashes - it's because they are not fit to drive
if a young person crashes - they were speeding
if a middle aged woman crashes - it was someone elses fault.

That's the way to do it.
Shame a lot of old people don't realise they're not in control any more.

What pisses me off is the fact that old people have slower reaction times than young people, but they pay less for insurance
There's an old boy near me, he must be 85, only drives on a Wednesday... if a kid jumped out in front of him when he was doing 20mph along my road, he'd be more likely to hit them than someone young
Not forgetting the people who waddle up to their car using 2 walking sticks because they can't walk anymore, then get in a NORMAL car, with no hand controls and drive off.
DEFINITELY needs something doing about it, doctors cert means FA these days, you can be fine when you get it, then you don't need another one for 10 years or something stupid

IMO all insurance companies care about are:
how many years no claims you have - quite a lot of old people i know have no claims ''for life''
how much of a risk you are - young people are more of a risk apparently
what area you live in - e.g. ghetto or posh.
IMO i don't think they take into consideration the age of someone unless they are young e.g. 17 otherwise we'd all have decent priced insurance.

I used to work in a food store, the amount of people that used to walk themselves in spend about 3 hours pottering around the shop with about 4 different walking sticks then drive home was scary.
Best one ever was the guy that claimed his eyesight was too bad to read the tins. Helped him round the shop took ages because he wanted it all read out then:
"Can you carry this to my car?"
Me: "Erm... Sure "
