it brings a tear to my eye at just how helpful and supporting the cs crowd are. thats 3 people so far who have offered a house/bed/etc

It's two and a half hours on the train from Edinburgh
Portlethon is a dump...but only a 5 minute drive from Aberdeen.
We'll be up there from July too so can keep you company

2.5hrs...............really??? Multimap said 125 miles & 2hrs 15min in a car so I thought a train would take about half that

no....train takes longer than car...
and don't even try bussing it...I think I almost permanently damaged my back after a 5 hour mega bus journey

We still need to find ourselves somewhere to live....going to look at a few places on Friday and Saturday

Would have thought a train would be quicker, your right though over 2hrs from my local station!! Might just drive then, think id get bored sitting on a train that long!!

I thought you's had an offer on somewhere

we did....didn't work out though...value came in a lot lower than we were expecting and the seller didn't want to drop the price....
so back to looking again.

I would think that driving would be better....Portlethon is on the way out of Aberdeen...if you were to get the train, you'd then have to go into Aberdeen which could take about 45mins on a bus in rush hour

Its with Cogent SSC, so probably shell, WG, Amec or one of the other companies that work with them.

Cogent, thats the boys I was going to apply to after Uni!! They run the course at Jewel & Esk Valley College in Edinburgh mate!! Might be worth trying to get posted their. My old boys the head of technology so could maybe put in a word

I thought it was 18 months in college, 18 months offshore "on job trraining" then ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

I was told its a college in Aberdeen, hence getting relocated there.

They said 18 months training in Aberdeen, then 24 months training offshore, then £££££££££££££

Think you get to choose/alocated after initial training but it will be from, Process Control Tech, Electrical/Instrumentation tech or Electrical maintenance tech.......on a North Sea Oil & Gas Platform.

Did you get an offer from them??

I thought about Uni but it would mean another 3yrs study, making no money, getting in debt, to go down the same route im going anyway. Im almost 25 just now so id be 28 by the time im workig again....no thanks

Aye they do the course at both colleges IIRC its Robert Gordon in Aberdeen? Met a few of the lads at JEwel & Esk. They all thought it was ace!
