top speed relates to the rating of the tyres etc

I just think it does not warrent the type of tyre

I dont buy them for their top speed rating cos Im never going to hit it. Its how well the tyre performs round corners that matters

I know that but at that price the rating will be gor 140+ speeds

And in all honesty you will probably hit your limit of driving ability before you reach the tyres and chasis capability

That is true with the better tyres but with the crap ones I've had in the past I have definately reached the tyres max. Rather shell out for the better tyres and never reach their limit than have crap tyres that you can reach the limit of quite easily.

Why would speed rating have anything to do with it?

Most low profile tyres are V rated (149) these days, or even Y (186), only the little balloon things are H, and even that is up to 130mph.

Find a 205/40 17 tyre with a low speed rating for me.

As Robin said try and find a T rated or low speed rated 205/40 17 tyre.
