Some of it is to do with the fact that they are excellent cars that are superb to drive and are very tuneable.
A lot of it is to do with the fact that you can't buy cars like this anymore, even from Ford.
But I think the main attraction is to do with their homologated brothers and sisters having (not including the MK I & II Escorts) unparalleled success in rallying and touring car racing.

I saw a lovely MK1 Escort yesterday, thats a Ford that I do appreciate. Was yellow and looked really clean.
