I'll take some photos later on how i do it. 
 
You don't use your heel. It's the side of you foot. 
 
It came from the rallys/F1 etc. where the brake was at the top and the accelerator was at the bottom.

You put the ball of your foot on the top right 1/4 of the brake pedal, and then roll your foot to the right so that the outside edge of your foot presses onto the accelerator as you brake. 
 
The trick is to apply enough pressure to brake to the required amount, and press the throttle enough to bring the revs to the right level. 
 
Practise with the engine off at first, and then try on a quiet road til you get the hang of it, better than trying first time and shooting your car into the back of a lorry by accident.

ages and aes ago there was one on here of japs racing in proper heavy rain, gave pedal cam view, was awesome.

clutch up 
and floor it 
 
its become a habbit now i always tap accelerator wen changing down.

i find it more comfortable, leave the motorway at 70, brake, H&T down to 4th at 60, no jerkiness, plus the braking is shared between engine and brakes, so you still have something left to stop you if you need it in an emergency.

I disagree, I always tap the throttle on a downchange, always have, always will, it's a habit, I don't think about it. 
 
In not thinking about it, how is it more likely that I will make a mistake, braking in a straight line, as well as using the gears to slow me down too? 
 
Maybe that's why my V6 brakes had no wear after 5k?
