If we didn't have one and then there was a war in which they were needed, you'd be asking WTF we didn't have any.

are we up north going to see any of this? are we bollocks
the north isn't paying for it, so why should you be complaining?
I agree that it is a lot of money, but then again it'll bring in a lot of money from tourism (plus other events), and will improve london a lot!
The could have spent it on the NHS, but they it gets spent on paperclips and photocopying paper

Who gives a fuck about regions of the country... its about bringing in money to the whole economy not one specific region
And the govt arent paying fir it! And the subs was £20bn not £4

£9.2bn is about £300 per working individual in the uk (based on 30m working)
Building that lot on some SERIOUSLY contaminted land is my best guess as to why the cost has risen so much...

I was to say the least, in fact, my mood was more the day I found out we had been lumbered with the olympics.
I watched the excited twat athletes cheering about the UK winning the bid as though they'd found a pot of gold or cured cancer, and all I could think was, ''ok, fine, cheer all you like you bunch of blinkered fuckwits. You lot pick up the tab then.''
Then when I heard the estimate, I estimated 12 billion. I would now like to increase my estimate to 18 - 22 billion. I'm sure I will have to ammend this at least twice more during the next 5 years.
This big pointless pile of crap is going to make the millenium tent in Greenwich look like a roaring success and a complete bargain.
I wonder what insane plan our insane government will come up with next, in an attempt to outdo THIS particular white elephant?
Giant waterslides on the moon perhaps?

i havent read the whole thread but...
i have no problem with the cost if it bene its the people paying for it.
but the fact its ONLY being hosted in London (i.e. all new infrastructure and tourist money going there) yet the WHOLE country is paying really really annoys me!
