did get an advisory of very slight play in rear wheel bearing which has now been solved. so nobody wins anything

Should it not have failed without the cat even if the emissions were low enough to pass?

probably robin.
thing is when you are in the trade and you take them a freshly cleaned and polished car with new brakes, suspension, engine, freshly undersealed, built to a high standard etc.... they seem to just take it that everything is done properly and turn a blind eye to some of the less important technicalities.

You can be fined at the roadside for not having one if the car was made after 1992, it's definitely a legal requirement.

I was pulled once at the roadside and they looked all round the car (my grey gsi) and they tested emmissions and it failed. they had a quick look under nad realised there was no cat but I blagged it and told them it was a 1992 c16xe. they just took it that I knew what I was on about and sent me on my way

ive heard alot of debate on this precat engine milarky. pain in the arse getting the let through but would fail horribly on roadside test i imagine. do you no the real gen on the laws of this as engine is 1992. car is gsi on a l reg.
