Hmmm. NWA pretty much invented the gangsta rap genre single handedly, but weren't essentially the best.
None of the rest have really pushed the genre forward though...

Really?!
You dont think with producers like Jay Z and Kanye bringing in different genres hasnt pushed things forward? Or the unique style of Eminem?

So if u compare an early NWA track and a newer Jay-Z track there the same ???
How can none of them pushed the genre forward, rap is no longer just about life in the ghetto the genre has moved forward more than n e other music genre

Eminem by far, he doesn't need to rap about guns and how hard it is to be the poor black man in the ghetto. He flows so much better than other rappers anyway. All of his stuff makes sense, rather than other rappers where you can tell the words have just been put there because they rhyme.

If your talking about commercial sucess Dre takes some beating, but if you're talking about actually rapping ability and quality of production there are loads of underground Hip Hop act who would piss all over any of the names mentioned in that list. Most of the comercially released stuff these days is closer to Pop/RnB than to Hip Hop

Snoop, Diddy and Jay Z all beat him in terms of money made (commercial sucess)
