FPMSL you really are clever, i think you'll find we digressed slightly because you started talking about trains having the same speed limits as cars.
Can I just point out also in bold above - if you are of the opinion that people shouldn't jump out in the first place (hence read the signs)what warrants a 70mph per hour speed limit for trains?

FACT:
My town (Dingwall) is the only town in the whole of the uk to have more than one level crossing without barriers
all 3 are pretty close to the school aswell, been numerous crashes and still we have no barriers

Trains having the same speed limit as cars WTF
My dad works in a signal box and some of the stuff he comes out with is unbelieveable, the sheer amount of people who try their luck at beating the system is ridiculous. He's had to stop a train before when some drunkard started walking up the line in the direction of a freight train

Trains having the same speed limit Trains generally go in a straight line and have no other trains to worry about (except for the odd tragic collision) so why should they only do 70

18 years old, and no, if you have a problem with me, take it up with one of the moderators. no need to spam a thread up because you have a problem with my opinion.

I have heard of someone getting sacked for speeding in a train lol.. they do get into trouble but they just get warned most of the time and get so many chances.. apparently. dont quote me on that though.

no, i don't see why trains should be allowed to do 100mph whilst we cna only do 70 legally...
maybe the person wouldn't have died if the train was doing 70? although they most probably still would've
You have got to be joking what a stupid thing to say

You opened your mouth without thinking though. If people jump trafic lights then they die. Should speed limits be lowered to 30mph because of this?

agree with ed on this. but tbh even if the train speed limits were lowered to 30mph. A train weighs considerably more that a car, so there will still be fatalities

Train VS. car. The train is always going to win. Lowering the speed limits is not the answer. People are going to die taking risks. No one cries when a sky diver dies jumping out a plane and they don't rip the schute in time cos they are taking risks.

Exactly, a Train travelling at 30mph would still smash the shit out of anything in its path. The Train used on TG didn't have brakes either so slghtly unfair test, but the message is still clear. Do not try and jump level crossings!

the only problem is if a high speed train hits something on a level crossing there is a risk of de-railing therfore injury to innocent train passengers plus damage to the network / train.
As for the car drivers all part of 'natural selection' and evolution get rid of the idiots one by one.

As soon as clarckson said the lesson to be learned from this is always wear a high vis jacket you knew there would be complaints.
People who take the chance of driving infront of a 100mph train should maybe deserve to die.
At the very least they shouldn't be allowed to drive a car.

The train runs on a track, and cars do not. It's very unlikely for the train to hit anything, whereas there can be hundreds of cars on one stretch of motorway at any one time. If people start jumping out in front of cars, should we drop the speed limits? No, exactly. If you're going to run a level crossing, you deserve to be hit by the train IMO.

You're talking about a vehicle that weighs a few tonnes and takes about a mile to stop from 70mph (and a mile and a half from 100mph). They'd have died anyway.

I don't understand why TG showing it would have anything to do with someone still jumping the crossing

i do like the way that Top Gear doesnt really listen to the complaints though and carry on regardless, if all places did this, people wouldnt bother complaining,
IMO people complain more now because they think everyone will be up in arms about it like theyre center of the earth
