Fiberglass panels do not line up and bow out of shape when at high speeds (Door tops bow out etc).
I looked into it for the twin engine corsa and went to look at BAT motorsports Corsa's as all panels are fiberglass (Doors,Boot,Roof,Wings etc etc) and i just couldent live with the lines the panels made and the ruffness off them.
Before doing the all fiberglass shell i would tell anyone to take a trip to BAT in liverpool and talk to them about it all (they offer fiberglass, carbon and kevlar panels)

cheers beady, sort of helped make my mind up

I'd sacrifice panels gaps for weight saving.

Go to BAT for the day and come back tell me the same.
I would rather spend the money on getting alittle more power to compensate for the extra weight.
For a total track car then ye go for fiberglass panels, IF you plan to use the car on the road then 110% no.
70mph on the motorway and the tops of your doors bow out just think off the ammount of air flowing into your car with a 2-3" gap PLUS think of the ammount of stress each panel would be under after time everything cracks (trust me i have seen it)

I'd say you'd be better off lightening the steel pannels and using plastic windows. The glass weighs a lot! Fibreglass is shit

But I thought you were building it so that you could do a 10 sec 1/4 mile?

steel panels on a corsa dont weigh hardly anything really anyway.

bonnet would be the heaviest but like if the weight is that much of a prob to u remove it for spec occassions, much better option imo than a f/glass piece of rubish which ull spend a day fittin nice, then the next thing is around the hinges cracks etc etc etc. f/glass is rubbish

just buy as many lightweight panels as you can, you're always going on about being so light, so dont poof out, just paint the panels that are needed, imagine all the extra weight of painting the full shell.

JR, i think you need to clearly identify the direction/ what you want to use your car for, then decide accordingly. PErsonally it looks good as is, wouldn't waste any money making it look poo for the sleeper look etc.

f/g boot, doors, wings, bonnet, poly windows, paint it a nice colour, nothing lairy, drilling holes wont make a difference imo, nothing substantial.

I am BUT i wanted it to be very clean and still look like a factory car. Plus weight isent really a problems (as i would not of gone for 2 engines ) It was just somthing i looked into as i have booked myself onto a carbon fiber panel making course in april so i have the option to make them.

I just could not live with the gaps the panels give, Plus the bowing at high speeds (if the doors bow out at 80mph imagine what they will do when i go for 180mph+)

i think the picture below says it all, Fiberglass doors

I like the clean and tidy slag look. Don't make it look scruffy just so you can brag about having a 'sleeper' and I don't think you'd be happy with panel gaps everywhere. Just sort an engine out for it, get rid of anything else you can and enjoy it. Maybe even drive it now and again.
