street eliminator class?
they have to be road legal, do a 20 mile drive on the roads on way to the drag strip including a fill up on regular road fuel to prove they can. then it's the racing.

i think they use single gear variable ratio viscous auto boxes. constanstly changing the ratio throughout the rev range.
