thats a tricky one steve, depends what you mean by a year. once youve worked somewhere a year, you get all sorts of rights. Anytime during your first year of employment with a company they can sack you giving no reason whatsoever if they want.

what do they have to do to make you redundant after a year?

They have to prove that your job no longer exists... that there is a decent reason for taking it away etc, and that you havent amalgamated into another job just to get rid... big companies just pay people off though... if you geta proper redundancy package like we have talked about they are really just paying you to go for operational reasons and a lot of the time its not true redundancy but like I say, they opay u so much u doint care!!

Its looking good so far, some people are being called in indivdually, and the fact that our team are last indicates to me that we are the ones are gonna be made redundant, hope I get gardening leave as well for 3 months, how fcuking ace ventura!!

I also have this thought many times, although my team is safe for a good few years I just hope I don;t get sacked before I get the chance to take redundancy
On the one hand I earn good money here, although I would get 6 years at a month, but if I left it another 6 years then ... well it would be better
It's got to be a calcultated decision though.
Amoutn of wedge you'd get vs amount you'd get with predicted salary increases and number of months pay taken into account in say 5 years, could be the difference between £12k and nearly £30k
Plus the market average salary of your job and future security, and the garden leave bit
Tax free aswell

My manager has gone in to be briefed before we go in, THINGS ARE LOOKING GOOD LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.
I better get a good package, even if it ends up being the shitty 1 week for every year thats still 2 months pay tax free so £3k is the minimum I will get.
