Colin - look for a job before doing the survival course. There is a lot of demand just now, so they may put you through it. Save quite a bit of moola then.

i havent got any reputable skills or qualifications in it. i built that corsa sure, and it was made of rediculous things, but its not good enough to just know one make of car ands engines really. could do xe conversions all day long, but dont have the space.

im sadly getting the feeling my joke about going to work for maccy ds might actually happen. and im sadly seriously considering selling the corsa, as i just cant afford it

Get a gazebo and freeze your tits off while doing engine conversions?!

Sorry to here that Mupster, I was laid off from a welding job just before Christmas last year as I wasn't making targets. I signed on at the Job Centre and they basically didn't want to know. Had I been the usual dole scum I would have no doubt have been getting benefit no questions asked! I filled in approx 10 forms to prove I wasn't working, various phone calls chasing them up and 3 months later they finally paid me benefit, albeit not all I was owed. I then had a week in hospital during the new year which prevented me from looking for work, I wanted a change of direction in an office, and like you because all I'd done was in a factory none of the agencys etc wanted to know. I was finally given a 2 week trial in a Design department and I've been there 9 months now. I'll be getting 4k less a year but theres none of the stress associated with factory work.

Yeah I will do, I think im getting into this at the right time with the new working-times legislation etc. I'll try & get work without doing my survival but if I feel its going to give me an edge over others to get a job i'll do it off my own back & out my own pocket.....money well spent!!

ive decided to appeal against my dismissal. i believe the first warning i got was un-justified and has lead to a poor decision from my work. pretty sure its becuase the manager hasnt liked me from day 1.

anybody ever appealed against such a thing? or offer any adivce?

hmmm tough one that. the above link gives several ways you can appeal, employment tribunal being the last resort. the main issue is your and their definition of fair dismissal, being such that they must prove that they have acted reasonably in the circumstances.

some information.......

the place i work at introduced a new code of practise for absence control on 1st march 2006. this was 3 weeks after i began a 7 week period of being signed off with a slipped disc. they gave me my first warning around march, after the new rules came in during the time i was already signed off. it also says written warning is applicable after 3 occasions of absence of which that was the second id had, and was signed off by a doctor. so maybe might have a case......maybe

You may be able to claim unfair dismissal if you can show that you weren’t told about a relevant company rule or policy by your employer.

Your company will have a policy on appealing. I'd gather as much information as you can, trace all paper work including sick notes/written warnings etc. make yourself a good case towards the company
