another thing with my bank the halifax that annoys me is i can have say several grand in my account, and i can only take out 1200 + a further 300 from the hole in the wall, so 1500 a day max. with it being my own money, i should have the right to remove as much or all of it as and when i want to

They cant stop you taking as much as you like out of a current account. If they say you cant tell them you want it all as closing the account and they'll soon give it you!

yes you should be take as much as you want out if you go to a branch. Though I think sometimes you need to give them notice when taking out larger amounts.

yeah if its a silly amount over a few grand they'll probably need notice if its a smaller branch. But upto 2 or 3k shouldnt be a problem.

a few times now in the past few years ive needed several thousand out, and ive had to go in 3 days running to get it. im more than likely buying a car next week, will have to waste 2 mornings on my days off getting the money out. the last time i needed 3k+ out, i rang up and gave notice. wheni got to the bank a week later, they said i could only have 1200.

they are just a shitty branch then. Id ring or go in giving them notice on how much you want and make sure they know if they dont have it you'll be making a complaint about them personally to head office and also closing your account down...that will make sure they get it right!

as I said above already, if its a silly amount over a few grand you'd have to give notice, but most would have atleast 2k in.

which if i was going to buy a car from a private seller, they more than likely wouldnt accept a cheque from the bank (i wouldnt) so its no good to me
also, dont want to close down the account as its the only bank near me that has a function for putting cheques in through the hole in the wall at 4am
