I think my new silver shark has a problem.
It's eyes have a sort of white mist to them.

Yep that's not good, I had that on my regal tang.
I would reccomend going to your LFS (local fish shop) ASAP otherwise you will loose him.

Yeah it's treatable mate, if you don't treat it then it's just a matter of time im afraid.
Does it have white spots anywhere on it?

Nope other than that it's a perfect fish. Good scales and fins etc.
I'm familiar with white spot and dropsy, i've had a spate of them before.

Im thinking it either has 1 of 2 things.
1) If it has white spots elsewhere then he has ach or white spot.
2) It might be a disease called velvet. You should notice he is lazy?
I can't remember the proper name as im at work damn

Fine Filtersponge
Coarse Filtersponge
Nitrate Romoval Sponge (Optional, takes place of one coarse sponge)
Carbon Sponge
Poly Pad
My tank is a 180 Juwel, this takes 2 fine and 2 coarse, then 1 of the others. I'm not sure if yours needs 1 or 2.

Right, going back into freshwater from what I can remember you need the following.
Black,Green x2 i think, Blue, White (at the top)
The white pad needs to be changed every so often.

The greens ones are the nitrate sponges. You only use one of these.

Was it the blue x2 then?
I can't remember because I stopped all that when i moved into marine and ripped out the fliter section of my jewel tank.
Although I now have another new tank anyway lol

cloudy eyes is normally a symtom of high ammonia in your tank. Have you done a water test? Is it just cloudy eyes or have you noticed any burn type wounds on the sides of the fish or split fins?
If your ammonia is high then do a large water change (about 25%) and dont forget to treat it with dechlorinator. I would also suggest dosing the tank with 'ammo-lock' which your LFS will sell.
The high ammonia will be due to poor filtration probably, either they are crap filters or the tank is overstocked and they cant handle all the ammonia. So if your buying a new ones make sure you go bigger. Also dont just remove your old filter, run the new and old side by side as otherwise your tank will have to cycle again and the ammonia build up will probably kill most the fish.

Matty G - When you clean the sponges make sure you do it in old tank water and not tap water!

Cosmo, I bought this fish last week. It had cloudy eyes then. I thought it was because it was really young. I had another with cloudy eyes, but it was blind. This one isn't. The tank had around 25% changed last week also. There is no water problems at all. I checked.

it was more than likely the stress from going from one tank to the other then. I'd just make sure your water is perfect and give it a few days to see if anything changes.
