im no expert on these things but when im there i dont seem far enought away becouse imo there isnt enough space btween the strip and the banking all it needs is a car to hit barrier gover over the barrier and wipe out at least 50 people but thats my opinion

on the tickets, it will say "motorsport is dangerous" and "the owners accept no responsibility for injury or death" or something along those lines.
there will have to be an inquest into it, as there always is with these things...
but i doubt the Santa Pod company are actually doing anything wrong, they will be sticking to the distance rules, like any other drag strip.
the other thing is, there are rarely injuries at Santa Pod, i bet there are more injuries at Silverstone or Rockingham... and Brafield will be the worst in the area, as its used for banger racing, but they have a disclaimer too.
its tragic still though
glad i didnt go now
i'll have a look for a news article

but if the car wasnt running well or poorly maintained....
they are highly maintained, but they need rebuilding after every 5 second run, so the components are under a lot of strain, its quite frequent for the engines to pop
although "starter ring" sounds like a part with not much strain on it

robin i agree that partaking in the races risk, but a disclaimer doesnt waive the rights for the owner to do wtf he wants. if its found that part of the track isnt as it should be then im pretty sure something will happen
iif its found they have done as much as possible to maintain health & safety then it will be classed as an accident

yeah you are right steve, in law you can't limit or exclude liability for death or injury

Dad says "Spoke to a mate who sponsors a dragster there and he said the man was stabbed when a piece of fibreglass from the wing"
parachute must have caught the wing and snapped it

hopefully it wont result in Santa Pod being closed.
like i say, they have less accidents per person than other motor racing venues nearby...

"Starter ring"
I thought this too.
How on earth can an engine part kill a spectator?
Drag cars cylinder heads are held down by kevlar straps in case the head blows off the engine. They have been known to fly off and hit the crowd.

He was wrong Ed, it was the parachute breaking a lump of fibreglass off. dad only heard it was the starter ring from the gearbox.

Yea, read that after posting. Tragic really as you don't expect stuff like that to ever happen.
