I got stopped by a female police officer in my vehicle and was accused of being an importer and a ringer specialist all because my car is lhd, I have a sticker in german that says "diamond black-schwatrz" under the hood and i was told i put that there to cover the VIN number, her police officer partner explained (who was a man) and showed her where the VIN number actually was, but she was having none of it, a call to the traffic police who took two hours to arrive only to tell her the same thing, she was gutted and gunning for me, but oh well. On the subject of exhuasts i think my day is coming very soon

Also how f*cking loud are their f*cking sirens that they decide to turn on when ever they get stuck in traffic? "Whatevers standard" ? what a bunch of bullshit, they just had nothing better to do than pick on an innocent motorist! I dont know why people are accusing this guy of being rude to them, it is your right to ask questions, wasnt as if he was threatening or rude. Traffic cops are f*cking idiots with a licence to f*ck you over.
the only bullshit round here is what you just shovelled in that post.
there are legal requirements about exhaust levels, only an idiot would compare some stupid loud exhaust to police sirens which help get them places quickly.
lets see you dying at a crash, then the police/ambulance turning up late because they couldn't get through traffic as they weren't allowed sirens on because some fool was worried about double standards

Yeah there probably are legal requirements about exhaust noise levels, my point is that most traffic police have no idea what these are, but use them as an excuse to pick on people with modified cars. I admit I went off on one but dont take everything I said literally, only an idiot would do that.

to be fair, whenever i've dealt with a traffic cop, I find them well in the knowledge of whats what in regards to traffic offences, laws, etc... they need to be clued up anyway given the area they work in.
also reading somewhere, 90% of the time they are also the first to respond to accidents or call outs when compared to the local police.
but in regards to people saying 'they have nothing better to do' i have this to say...
Not once have I ever complained about being pulled, regardless if I am at fault for something, or its a routine check, or something else. There doing there job - simple.
Its these spot-checks which help uncover people with no insurance, tax, mot, or driving convictions/disqualifications/no licence at all...
Also, why panic when pulled over? Unless your in the wrong, there is no need.
Most people who slate them for doing these checks from reading on here, and other sites, seem to be those who don't declare mods on the insurance, or do 2ltr conversions and still keep it down as a 1.2i for 'insurance purposes'... IMHO ofcourse...

It's not a legal requirement for your MOT however look at this link.
http://www.reigate-banstead.gov.uk/public/Environment/EH/EP/Noise/Transport/car_exhausts.asp
Just something i quickly found thro the mighty google. Might not apply to all boroughs i dont know

Get over it.
They are there ot do a job. Be a cock and they will treat you like a cock.
Treat them the same way you would like to be treated. The way after a few questions every one will be on there way.

Not just your exhaust you need to watch either.
I got £30 fixed penalty for forgetting to turn my front fogs off. Been foggy in the morning on the way to work, cleared during day and just plain old forgot.
Just about to fit a split backbox and remus centre pipe to Jay's Corsa (incidentally he is taking over the Xtremewheels login, I got my own now) how do I go about checking the db of the new system? Will the fitting centre do it for us at the time of installation?

They cannot test your exhaust in any built up or enclosed area. They have to be somewhere the exhaust sound will not bounce off or echo. If they did not do this the it cannot stand. Also if they dont know how load its aloud to be them in my eyes the can fuck off.
The poloice around my area are beginning to be abit stupid. The other night they where pulling people over for no reason, other than to do searches on randam cars.
If the police decided to try and get people with no insurace, licence etc then i wouldnt have a problem, but when they are just pulling people up for no reason it really pisses me off.
They aret bothered about the stupid twats on mopeds who decide to ride up your arse in gangs of about 10 for about half an hour. Thats what they do in mansfield and one day someone is going to hurt a mopeder for being a twat. Then when you get out and threaten them with your steering lock the police want to talk to you.

what the hell r u on about?
what would the world be like if every1 rolled over and got thier bellies tickled???
why on earth will it cost me to represent myself in court? on a charge that wont stick in a milluion years??
was the rev counter calibrated and was it thier own? NO
did they measure a distance away from the exhaust? NO
did they know the legal limit? NO
did the show me a calibration cert after i requested to see 1? NO
you obviously know nothing, im not going to roll over and get shafted by the cherry tops again, i know they have a job to do, my uncle is a copper, i know they're not all bad, but i also know there is some out there with a vendeta against young lads with done up cars...
what you have posted has amused me, you saying i shouldnt defend myself for having done nothing wrong, illegal?
ill await your reply but somehow i doubt ill get one....

Unless the vehicle can cover a set test distance in under a certain time, which will allow them a couple of dB extra, hence your TVRs etc.

Shouldn't you report these two officers for bad conduct? They aren't doing thier jobs properly. They then have the ordacity to whinge when people don't respect them.

In the prototype phase of a new vehicle for instance, theres a section where the vehicle covers a set distance, say 100m, and they test the noise level from the exhausts. If the car completes the distance in under a certain time, its allowed a couple of dB leeway. Basically powerful cars can be louder
