ipods are very fashion orrientated with clever use of advertising and marketing.
id buy one just because i oprefer the design over any other mp3 player and i sue itunes.
have an ipod shuffle and its superb and what its for, coudl do with a tiny lcd strip to show whats playing but then i guess that defies the point.

I bought a 20gig Zen over an Ipod mainly because it was cheaper!
Only downside is the touch-controls. Having to tap the same part as you use to scroll is a shit idea IMO!

Anyone who things that iTunes is complicated in a fucking mongo.
Drag and Drop a song to your iPod. Job done.
To rip a CD, put it in your CD player and click Import.
I find a lot of people dont like Apple cause they are a big company and iPods are popular. Its the same with Microsoft, you always get some geeky fucker who thinks Linux is better.

Itunes is by far the best software for an MP3 player
I cant believe some people in there.
Ipod wins on:
ease of use
looks
size
weight
downside is their pricey, but worth the money
(saying that my ipod is dead, wont even switch on )

Why on earth does anyone care what a music player looks like?

Coz if there "long and thin, covered in skin, pink in parts and go in tarts" then people do care.

With regards to iTunes. Why can't you just use Explorer?

I've got in excess of 5000 songs on my itunes. If I want a song or a selection of songs, I just create a smart playlist or use iTunes like a database (which it is) so I can search on all my music.
Why, in the name of Jesus H Christ, would I want to troll through windows explorer to find the files I wanted then to copy them onto my iPod?

No.
There are no real bonus' made off any f the MP3 players, however adding accessories to the sale makes more money which means more commission. There are a lot more accessories for Ipods than for any other MP3 player, which means the chances of you buying something from the extensive range are a lot higher & therefore more profitable for the store
Sales persons main aim is to make money, if you worked there & saw a young lad walk in & ask for an MP3 player what would you sell him? (Taking into account what I've just said)

Ed, i dont understand what your problem is with the iPod? in my opinion its a great piece of technology. i havent had one for about 6 months as it was stolen from me at work, but it never let me down and kept on playing those tunes no matter how much abuse it received. i used it every day for 2 years straight, recharged every single night and it still pumped out 8 hours worth of music every time. iTunes is great too, i dont see how someone could find it complicated

I'll admit I was really sceptical about the Ipod and the massive praise it was getting. Then my sister got a Nano and I was mega impressed with it. For starters it's tiny! Also i'm not sure why you'd want a battery life of more than say 6/7/8 hours, when will you be listening to it for that long?! If it had a longer battery life it'd have to be made bigger, thus losing some of its appeal. iTunes is also piss easy to use, i'm pretty sure I could teach my mum ,who is useless with technology, how to use it in about 5 minutes. Maybe some people do buy it for the wrong reasons, but it's still a very smart piece of kit. The scroll bit is also brilliant, it's so easy to change tracks, change the volume, browse pictures etc..... I've changed my tune about Ipods after actually using one.

I have all my music sorted in Explorer so I have no issues finding music.
