RCA is the hardest one to get onto. But that's post grad. Undergrad could well be Coventry, I didnt apply to any others so couldn't say.

Can do foundations in engineering. They do them at Aston where I'm at. You won't be dropped in the deep end anywhere really. The first year is all about getting you in the know of all these little things. Then in the next years you progress untill you can call yourself a little smart arse

Oh yea, bear in mind there is a really big difference between design and engineering. Engineering is sitting on a computer doing complex algorthms to figure stuff out. Design, which I do is playing with empty cor flakes boxes to make stuff

I want to do the design side, but want to be able to do engineering related things without the maths stuff. Cant you prove to someone you already have the know how to skip all the maths crap. What sort of stuff do you design ed?

The courses say you get to work as part of a formula ford team, what do you actually get to do on the team then cos im assuming you cant touch the engine unless you know how to count to 3000 in prime numbers

I dropt out of automotive engineering degree at swansea institute. Partly because uni wasnt for me and i didnt enjoy the course. I got an apprenticeship in the end and enjoyed that much more, more hands on, got paid, got an employer.

One of the things that finalised my decision to cut my loses was the amunt of previous students who actually found employers in this field........very very few. The campus and facilities at swansea institute are good, they build a fair few track cars. Look into it, and find an employer for work experience - they encourage this anyway!

thats what i was saying James, the course i was on was billed as a motorsport course, but i spent half of the week learning about the mathmatical bending properties of a beam, and then 2 days taking cars apart at Silverstone.

but, all the lads who finished the course now have work placement, so its worth it.

i regret not finishing it, but you wont get through it without doing maths.

You wont gain any engineering qualification without doing alot of maths, and science

its not quite as bad as that.

my course was 5 days a week, 3 days at college, doing a mixture of practical CDT type stuff, metalwork etc, and an equal amount of maths/health and safety training etc

then 2 days at Silverstone, taking open wheel racers apart, rebuilding engines, playing with go-karts, watching F1 testing, sneaking in to watch track days etc.
