i had a brief go in a mates 1.4 16V Sri, it felt fast (because i had been driving a 1.0 12V for 9 months) but nothing compared to the 1.6 i bought afew weeks after, IMO

however, i do realise these were both standard, but the 1.6 seemed to, as robmarriott has said, pull alot better

ps rob, is there anything you don't know?

Wasnt many inlets on the market at the time when I did this, and you wont benefit fully from an inlet such as a mantzel or bean can unless yo have a raised rev limit so is pretty pointless unless the car is also chipped or running management.

All this "standard inlet" stuff...

I thought this until I read up on a company that tuned an X16xE to about 190bhp using the standard inlet manifold.........

I cannot confirm the truthfullness on this though.

1.4 16v engines were class leaders in rallying in the corsa.

They are great engines, its jsut for road use, the 1.6 will always be the better engine. The 1.4 seriously lacks torque, and that will carry on through tuning, it'll never be as good as the 1.6.

To be a little different (iff thats your thing), go with the 1.4, if you want a bit more, go with the 1.6..

Both will cost just as much as each other to tune.

i know of a black 1.2 8v SXi, it has performance retarding mats too

.

170 at the wheels? so about 210 bhp at the fly. I know it can be done as theres a lad in newcastle with a nova with a 1.4 on tb's but that struggling to hit 170+ with a massive spec.

sure its not 170 at the fly?

Nope, 170 at the wheels matey. Was owned by a friend of Don Fulford, also a friend of that Yellow Euro Nova that came to billing, 2.0 on Carbs.... The whole group are spotless no expense spared fanatics.. I said the same, "are you sure its not our lingo barrier, 170bhp At the wheels? You sure that not at the fly?"

"No, it ran about 168bhp @ the wheels, we never bothered calculating the fly power as its the power at the wheels thats usable that interests me."

Saw it at a Belgium show, mental spec on the engine...

Yellow nova is in here, good old first nokia camera phone

im still sceptical about 170bhp at the wheels from a 1.4

the lad in newcastle has done almost everything possible to his 1.4 on tb's, 300 degree cams, steel bottom end, c16xe head with headwork, 9200 rpm rev limit..... makes 170ish (cant remember exact figure) at the fly.

where does that 1.4 get another 40+ bhp from
