I'm not contesting anyone's theories, but what I want to know is why would these airports be shut down, causing money loss and inconvenience, striking most of the general public with fear, potentially damaging the travel industry for a while after, all for it to be a bit of exageration and mockery? Why would they do this?

Rob how do you know "nothing was going to happen today" ? Do you personally know every potential suicide bomber in the world.
personally - if there has been a threat, which obviously there has been, they should prepare for it. If they did release something deadly and killed a load of people 1) it would be terrible an 2) I think it would definatly push it a step closer to a war begining.
This is probably from a biased view, but in my eyes , from speaking to lots of people over the past two years , i would say racism between muslims and English/irish/scottish/jewish/Jamacan etc have become so high its unbelievable. I think that these muslim suiside bombers have would up every other race and religion so much , hatred has got out of hand.
personally i have my views and ill keep them to myself.

and they have neutralised the threat, so why the precautions still 
and Jiz, its media propaganda to make people hate muslims, and think that we are doing the right thing fighting in the middle east.... thats what it all boils down to;
there has been public complaint about the fact that we are involved in another countries problems, and the government are looking for justification for it

After 7/7 the security services in this country have made some huge mistakes. Which has really made me think they are absolutel useless, but for some reason i think they are right with this one...
If they went into the house in london and got them 2 guys out safely a couple of months ago it wouldn't have been too bad, obviously still dodgy for the shite intelligance they received. its the fact that they shot him which made it 100 times worse.
If these guys are innocent they will get some nice payouts anyway

the threat hasnt been completely contained and therefore police etc are being more vigilant. Tanks at heathrow are to allow officers to deal with the situation in a more effective way when it happens. You notice I say when, this is because it is inevitable. 20 people were arrested and this stopped them coming to the end of the plan to blow up all these planes over american shores etc,it doesnt mean that there arent lots more terrorists out there deliberating some other plan just like it. In fact it is likely that if any co-ordination is used by these people that they will liaise with eachother in order to have effective back up plans,as it will be alot harder to foil lots of attempts than just the one if they are all carried out at the same time or in close proximity to eachother.
