I forgot to wash the bastards before I put them in
So couple of hours later lots of nice fats and oils floating around in my tank
Now its empty, need new filters, I've washed the ornaments, just need to wash the gravel and clean the glass inside the tank before I can start allover again

Your meant to get the normal fresh or frozen prawns, not marinated ones

shouldnt of got anything bad out of those, Ive used them to cycle all my tanks with zero problems!
The tank is meant to go slightly cluody as they break down into ammonia, the filters will take care of this though without any problems.

they were raw king prawns.
think they might have had some silly coating on them that dissappears when you defrost them and I forgot to wash it off.
What should I do this time once I have got it all set up again

just buy cheap, frozen, small prawns. Put them in hot water to defrost (and a bit of a wash) put them in a container with holes in (or pair of tights or net) and put them in the tank. Sorted!

'cos its crap! It really isnt worth the money, as you still need a decent ammonia source to get it cycled, and that doesnt speed it up any TBH.
The prawns will just breakdown into ammonia and that'll start the cycle, then you can take them out (couple of days normally) and wait for the bacteria in the filter to feed off this ammonia and break it down. Job done!
