VERY quick though, they dont weigh an awful lot either
now i own one and would disagree totally and i would like to bet a mr2 would out handle a front wheel drive 106 gti,
will agree on the wet quote haha i dont go over 2.5k revs to scarey
they are roughly 1250kg well mine is ( rev 2)

I'll never understand the people who say the MR2 has dodgy handling. Well the Rev3 at least, mine causes me no problems, Eagle F1's all round. You can drive it fast in the wet if you want but then if you try to drive it like a FWD you'll die, simple. Had mine nearly 4 years now, never even got it sideways. (apart from in the snow but thats just for a laugh)

This post again adam
MR2 Turbo - fast and can handle
MX5 - dog slow, gay
If you want to use it on tracks etc.... dont go for a small hatch unless its a 106/205 etc etc
You will not get a supra TT worth having for anywhere near 5k and they will cost the same again to make bearable on track.
Same with R32 GTRS... you can buy them for 5k... but you'll get a dog... and need to spend a lot.
R32 GTSt though 2.5 turbo, lighter than the 33... can be had for a few k!!! Even a R33 if you dont liek the mean boxy R32

What about a Fiat Coupe (I know you said no to Fiat but it ain't a run of the mill Fiat)
You can pick up an LE for about 4.5k, good leather interior, Air Con - 220BHP standard and easily tuned to approx 275. You can even fit people in the rear seats!
Greenlight & Noel Dazley are good insurers for them

An MR2 turbo would rape a 106gti through the twisties... on a straight... in reverse... whichever way you can think of!! The only time I would back the GTi is in the wet... and im sure that given the right driver the MR2 would still hold its own..!
most likely the MR2's you have driven have fcuked suspension, as even the first revision 3 cars are 13 years old now

yesh im wrong... 106GTi's are the greatest cars ever!
and actually the gutless buzz box hatch is much tidier through the bends than a mid engined, RWD Jap car with a Yamaha built engine

i'd think an MR2 would be much better round a track than a 1.6 FWS hatch
RWD mid engine 2.0 turbo Vs FWD 1.6 hatch

Their both 2 very different cars tbh, but I think someone who knows how to drive an MR2 would beat a gti round a dry track!!
Wet = no comment, I wouldnt even go out!!

tbh i feel i can actually comment on this since ive had 2 of each .... im not sure about a rev3.. but i can tell you the rev1/2 suspension is shocking, zero feedback through the steerign wheel, feels very boaty.... no doubt an mr2 would go round a track quicker overall... but im saying I much prefer the drive of a 106 properly setup
