Why would you want to be my tea boy?
I know it was a joke but if you brought that up when I was interviewing you I would probably write you off
£6-30 an hour?
Jesus, get a better agent mate. They charge at least £16 for your services

I've given up asking for a pay rise so i'm now in the process of learning a new trade and then i'm going to leave and start fresh elsewhere. I do more than people who are on the same money, balls to that.

all he does is opens mail, reads paper, has a meeting or 2 and generally is always 'just nipping out'

I work in a Warehouse at the moment in a supervisory position, but its dull. So i'm about to apply to my local college to do a part time course, namely this one: AAT Foundation Accounting NVQ Level 2. Then hopefully earn and learn after that course in some sort of apprenticeship role.
Thats the plan anyway.

I was in the same situation, I did shit loads of work for a software development company, there were only 4 of us in total and I made the most money for the company. I was on about £14k a year the software I was developing made the company loads each one that was sold we made £4k from and we must of sold about 50 of them plus they got support fees per month per item and all I got was £14k
So I thought feck it i'm off and left the company and now i'm on £10k more that and do less work plus its walking distance so save loads on fuel.
My advise would be to find another job you may think theres no jobs out there but there is no harm in searching.
It sounds to me he takes you for granted and he will be at a loss without u so it wouldn't supprise me if he offered you a large increase when u say u are leaving

TBH If I were you I would move on anyway.
Sounds like you are stuck in a rut (or too scared to move on?)
Its not really a good career move to stay at a one man band for too long.....much better to move around an gain experience of multi discipline practices with lots of staff

I have only been here since November, wouldnt say stuck in a rut and defo not scared to move on. I am enjoying what I am doing here as is very similar to what I will be doing couple years down the line hopefully was at a larger company for just over a year before i moved here. Was ok but not enough responsibility was sat in corner doing drawing
Only way to move on and get a decent wage would be to work in Glasgow would mean lots of driving and extra expense
Will see what he says this afternoon

What responsibilities are you given? I been in this game for 6 years and i had zero experience, i started off making tea doing surveys etc, im not basically left in charge of jobs, i attend site meetings and meet clients, engineers sort out problems on site. Last job i did on my own is on site at the mo and is a 1.8million pound job, there are 10 people at my practice i agree with what was previously said, you get paid depending on what they thik you worth. In this game best way to make a big salary increase is to move job

just now i am doing all the drawing in the office, alot of single plots 2 or 3 small extension and a couple of larger developments 20 plots or so. I am doing all the drawings, dealing with the engineers and council and clients.
Boss tends to deal more with the planning of the larger schemes but then really left up to me to get BW and try to sort out problems on site

thats more than I get as an apprentice civil engineering technician.
I should be on at least double what I am on at the moment
Waiting to finish my HNC course 1st then if he doesn't give me a decent rise I'm off elsewhere

If you are doing all that and only getting paid 12.5k then your boss is seriously taking the piss
