At the end of the tax year just gone I'd earned 29k, more often than not just doing 8-5 5 days a week but usually working away from home which gets me a decent bonus.
I got a raise at start of the new tax year and a better working away package which should mean an extra £45 a week so I'm hoping to crash the 30k barrier next April. Not bad considering no A-levels/uni.
Still skint though

Yea, uni is totally pointless. I was looking at graduate positions for people who have a similar qualification to what I hope to atain. They are only on about £28k per year

More people should do apprenticeships instead of fucking off to Uni for a few years and dossing around.
Funny thing is these uni people go to get a job and they have had all that education but dont have any experience to be able to do the job. Experience in doing the job is more important than having letters after your name

Simlar to Robbo and Natalie...........
left school and couldn't be arsed carrying on with full-time education so did an apprenticeship doing accountancy......
Currently on 22k, which is a decent wage for Accountants in Sheffield, plus they pay for study.
I agree that uni/degrees are in a lot of cases pointless.

Comment for the 'uni-is-pointless' corner:
I could have got my current job without my degree, so yeah, could have been starting to earn three years earlier and not got in to debt, however, next step up for me requires it. I will be able to start applying for these fairly soon, next few years, whereas anyone without a degree in my job currently would either need to go do something part time at night, or stay where they are.
Its not bad money right now, but I also don't want to stay on it forever.

So the placement year most people do is not counted as work experience these days? Oh and what about the part time jobs most students have?

i had a part time job as well as doin an apprenticeship for the first 2 months, as i was only gettin paid 2quid an hour. i agree apprenticeships are a great way of trainin, but think there ought to be more legislation to protect apprentice rights. all my mates say they would love to do my job, but couldnt live on the wage i was on. i know all companys have their own pay structure for apprentices, but why aint ther no minimum level like there is with any other job?
