they were probably just singing and having a laugh. Most foreign fans would just join in and sing along with the english eg, holland! infact i remember having a good load of banter with a load of italian fans at one tournament.
What we have got to remember is that is a minority, it always is. The italians have a very very hardcore group i seem to recall, as DID the english. The only english that can get abroad now are those that rnt banned, and to be honest there arnt that many harcore engish hooligans that get abroad anymore!
So on that note im going to not post on this subject anymore.

Greg, I meant I havent personally been at a game and seen violence, and Ive been to a fair few games where I expected to see it (Istanbul, Chelsea, Man Ure, Everton games). But yeah I know it still goes on, just certainly not in the same amounts as it used to be.
And the police abroad do tend to stand off. I have been to a few european away games and seen it happen first hand when smaller fights start out. Not sure if its something they have been told to do to stop things escalating, or if they just dont mind 10 guys on a few english.

Also, Im not saying all Italian fans are like this.
In Istanbul last may the AC fans were great. The amount of friendly banter and singing between the two sets of fans was what made that such a good day, both before and after the game. Probably also helped that we out numbered them 6-1 but wasnt one bit of trouble that I everyone I have spoke to since saw.

exactly what i said in my last post, its a minority. Trouble is that the italian minority is quite hardcore!

indeed it should. there isnt enough evidence for basis of discussion. its a sad thing that a minority have to ruin a, what should be, friendly natured game.

tottally agree - it should be a really good match this evening - as both teams have got good big game players.
just hope that there aint more trouble before the match - which will overshadow the game.

id lob italy out the world cup tbh. and the champions league.
Its not the first time this season is it!
what a stupid suggestion.
How is that stupid? England have been threatend with this loads of times before, and more much more minor things that stabbings.
England always have, and always will be discriminated when it comes to Football Violence. Italian fans are FAR worse than English fans, there is full scale riots at some games. Same in Holland and Germany. Its just these things go un-noticed because the leagues arn't as well known as the English Leagues.
Im just waiting to see what responce FIFA make to this, im guessing not a lot will happen

its stupid because you let a tiny percentage of thugs ruin things for a whole nation, and potentially dampen the world cup and champions league as well. for a start, you are saying Milan, Inter, and Juve should be kicked out of the 1/4 final stages of the CL because of a few Roma Fans? IMO-stupid, it will ruin the tournament.
Yes of course italian fans are much worse, when was the last time you remember italian fans causing riot in another country, i cant remember, because on the occassion when it does happen its at their own back door.
thats they reason why its stupid, and people should STFU, and allow the Roma, as a football club, Italian Police and the Italian FA to sort out their own mess.

I have to agree with Schoey on this to be honest...maybe not the world cup thing though.
English clubs were banned from Europe for 5 years in 1985, and Liverpool for 10 years after Liverpools participation in the Heysel disaster (running from being attacked and the force of the crowd knocking down a wall). Yet after the recent violence in Italy the most they have got is having to play behind closed doors for 4 games or so.
That ban for Liverpool came at a time when they were at the top of the game, had won the European cup and domestic titles numerous times. Us being banned for 10 years prevented us growing as a club financially and attracting the top players.
If it carries on then I think a ban from Europe should be the case for Italian teams. I know some of them have no problems, but it is happening a bit too often for it to be ignored.

Makes me laugh that these Italians think they are one of the world's leading fighting forces in club football 'Ultra's'.......yet they fight with axes, knives, etc, etc.
What's happened to the good old days of fists, feet and the occasional bottle??
