my mate got pulled for speeding a around 18 months ago, he was stopped and since he was doing 105mph it was for the courts to deal with. Anyway the night he was pulled he was given nothing and heard nothing for nearly 6 months until he got the court summons. Ended up with 5 points and £120 fine which wasnt too bad

I would of thought they would of given you a producer first - so that you could produce insurance documents which say you are able to drive it (if your mate claims he was).
When I got nicked for speeding, the copper said he ran my name through the computer and it said I wasn't insured on my car at all!
I got a producer and produces my insurance document and that was fine.
Seems a bit weird he's going to prosecute you both just from the computer?

Not if the officer has given you a road side nip. Which he has.
He has told them they're gonna get court summons for the offence - that is the N.I.P!
They now have up to 6 months to get the summons through the post.
If they had been say flashed by a camera or mobile camera van, then they would have 2 weeks to get a N.I.P!
If the copper was being serious - your already fucked.

however, we were given no paperwork, producer, or anything.
Would that not suggest he hasn't given a nip?
Or is verbal enough?

verbals never enough, if that was the case you could simply deny all knowledge providing he hasn't take your details.....even then
A couple of my pals have been pulled over and threatened with all sorts but nothing has ever come of it

Verbal is enough!
I didn't get a paper form of a nip!
on the road side I just had a producer (which was basically because I couldn't produce all my documents at the road side).
Was there 2 police officers? a N.I.P can be issued verbally, and afaik saying 'your going to get a court summons is a notice of intended prosecution'
now just the waiting game to see if the court summons comes in next 6 months.

quote: What form must the notice take?
It can be :-
a) given verbally at the time of the offence, or
b) by a summons being served on the offender within 14 days of commission of the offence, or
c) a notice of intended prosecution, specifying the nature of the offence and the time and place where it is alleged to have been committed, must be served on the offender, or the registered keeper of the vehicle at the time of the offence, within 14 days of the offence.
It can be given verbally - mine was! I had no paper work until about 4 months later for court.

i wasnt given a producer even tho i cpuldnt produce my details either. i didnt even have my license as its in the post coz i just moved house. so its adress is being changed. they just did checks over the system. and he didnt say it in a formal way or anything.
just at the end of the conversation, i said so what happens now? he sed you will b sent a sumons in the post.
thats it. he didnt say the world N.I.P or anything. n he didnt say it of his own accord, i had to ask him.

They didn't say 'N.I.P' to me
Though you should of got a police caution.
i.e. "You have the right to remain silent, anything you do say, may be given and used in a court of law bla bla bla"
If they didn't say that to you - then you are fine, even if you get a court summons, without a police caution being issued it'll get thrown out of court.
The nip was just basically him saying "You'll now have a court summons come through the post in next 6 months".
^ that was the NIP.
