I could imagine mate, that'd really shake me up for a long time.
At the end of the day, despite what the insurance says - it was not your fault and could've happened to anyone. The thing you have to focus on, was that your alive now and will need to move on.
I'd keep the inlet for now, and just save my money.
In 6 months or a year, you may want to get another car and hopefully get the modifying bug back.
