Threaten them with legal action. They will go running with thier tails between thier legs as they clearly haven't gone through the correct channel with this.

You should really have a copy of the procedure which is being followed.
If this is not available you would be safe to assume that the ACAS guidelines should be followed, which in the very least says that you should have a statement in writing of the alleged misconduct.
ACAS site is here - http://www.acas.org.uk/
Advisory doc is here - http://www.acas.org.uk/media/pdf/f/2/H02_1.pdf
Pay particular attention to pages 8, 10 and 30, which outlines the three step procedure from the Employment Act 2002, which really they should be following.
If you've not done so already, find a colleague, union rep etc. who can accompany you to meetings.
Good luck.

yea rob what ally said ^ done this in employment law. once you were called to the office, the manager should have made you aware of the reason for the meeting. he cannot suspend you without hearing your side and it is ridiculous that he couldnt even tell you what you were supposed to have stole! it just shows what a shit manger you have because he didnt even investigate the incident before taking action!
oh yea,if he has suspended you its got to be on full pay (unless you work for an agency)

I wouldn't complain about being suspended on full pay, especially if your not guilty! as long as you don't get sacked at the end of the suspension peroid its quite good.

rob, i used to work for ripspeed and went through same thing. i was accused of theft by discounting goods for mates etc, thus costing company money.
i was innocent, knew it and sat it out. i had two weeks off suspended on full pay as you will be. when they call you in for the meeting you have the right to have a representative with you, such as a colleague, so what i did was get my mate who was manager in another branch. if not then call your deputy manager as your witness( if hes sound and you get on with him) as he would otherwise be your managers backup/ scapegoat. this really screws the manager over.
when they interview you ( which they MUST do) ask what proof they have. expect them to quote halo figures of stock against actual stock. if thats all they come up with then tell them b0ll0x as these figures not accurate, etc.
pm me for my number and i will help you any way i can.
halfords are useless when it comes to investigations with staff and normally cock it right up.

Cheers for that mate, may just leave it then as i know i havent stole anything so i havent got anything to worry about, and if they try and blame something has gone missing on me, i can simply ask for proof it was me and they wont have anything...
feeling a bit better about it now

no worries mate. at the end of the day you have done nothing wrong.
they would require written evidence such as statement by other staff member, long term circumstantial evidence ie every time you worked a sunday till was down £50 or something like that, or cctv evidence which is never going to happen with halfords. if it was me i would wait til they send you letter advising date of meeting then tell them you're busy and make them rearrange it to suit you. thats how i had over 2 wks off and they could do nothing about it.
whatever you do when you attend meeting dont go in uniform. dress smartly and when they say you can start work again say ok see you monday, even if its tuesday etc. make them struggle as much as poss because your manager will never be same with you again even though you will be proven innocent. i found they would check up on me all the time for no reason, but couldn't do anything about it. hope this helps, but remember that its a shite company to work for whatever, and leaving will be the best thing you will ever do one way or other. i was a specialist on 17000 and jacked it. would never go back, unless as manager.

that sounds a bit of a nightmare !!! But as everyone has said above, just sit it out and wait for them to come back, cos at the end of the day they need evidence to sack you and it sounds like its your word against the employee that accused you.
Which store do u work at ?? who's the manager ??

Don't get your knickers in a twist about it. Suspended on full pay pending an investigation then.
What has gone missing then? Magic Tree? Set of Wheels?
If you really have no idea about it, just chill out. They'll have to prove it. Keep us posted

as long as you haven't stole anything then i really wouldnt worry 1 bit
the balls in your court basically, as your getting paid for doing nothing, thry haven't got a legal leg to stand on providing what they're saying is false

we had my ex deputy suspened cos one of the tills was £70 down they suspended him for like two weeks then stevenage store manager was the verdict person and our deputy manager ended up getting sacked cos he cashed up when nobody was in the store with him and they didnt have proof, hard to say it wasnt him but i still believe he didnt do it though

i work at wetherspoons, for last couple months certain tills have always been £10-£40 down pretty much every day, they know who it is as its only happened when theyre on shift, they have access to the tills and have the chance to do it (e.g when no other staff are around) but as no hard evidence cant to anything about it
