Gum is the way forward.
It has all the benefits of wax, but none of the drawbacks. i.e nice hold, but its dead easy to wash out.

Ive been using hairspray, shape it when its damp and use the spray. Ive got pretty fine hair so find it doesnt give it a thicker look. Will go for wax now the weather has cooled down abit.
